'Mass Effect' DS Bound?

Aside from their upcoming RPG, Sonic Chronicles: Dark Brotherhood due out this September, BioWare's considering creating another title for the Nintendo DS. This time it will be one of their own franchise - the intergalactic hit Mass Effect to be exact.

"Having a DS version would be an awesome way to keep interest alive and keep it going in addition to the next one [Mass Effect 2]," said by Dark Chronicles lead designer Miles Homes. He said that with BioWare's handheld division, titles like the hedgehog and Mass Effect would elevate the comapany's portable credibility, and it "reinforces the [console] franchises."

Homes said BioWare's also considering Jade Empire (RPG, 2005) and Dragon Age games to Nintendo's handheld. But as far as what he really wants to see? "I want the Mass Effect one," said Homes. Yeah, us too.

Mass Effect was released last November for the Xbox 360 (published by Microsoft) and this past May for the PC (published by EA).

We all know what that means right. I'm assuming mass effect 2 will go to ps3, bioware will go multiplat just like 2k did with bioshock. And down will go another great exclusive.

Name one game brought down by going to the PS3. You can't do it. A game is good or a game is bad. Has nothing to do with the platform. Some GBA games are better than 360 games (or PS3 for that matter). Judging a series by it's platform is the epitome of having blinders on.

Are you serious? Can you please name us which games you speak of cause I can't. As far as exclusives are concerned, that is irrelevant these days, nowadays it's all about making max profits and you can't do that by releasing titles for specific systems. GTA4 wouldn't have made as much money as it did if it were only on 360 or only on PS3. 2K will make even more money on the existing title such as Bioshock by releasing it on PS3 in the near future. It almost ensures that they will have enough revenue to start and complete Bioshock 2. Exclusives means nothing these days. If it weren't for hospitals and elementary schools buying Wii's, we'd see Zelda and Metroid on 360 and PS3 to max Nintendos profits. That's what Sega did...if you can't beat em, collaborate with em.

I certainly hope that they bring both Mass Effect 1 & 2 over to the PS3. I had the opportunity to play it on the Xbox 360 and the game was phenomenal. Also, don't the makers of Mass Effect 2 want to import your saves from the first game onto the second to further Commander Shepard's storyline (not to mention the hours of gameplay that went into achieving the 50 level). To do this they would have to port the first one to PS3. I, for one, can't wait for this game to come over. Hurry up already....

It's a good quality game and setting. It'll more than likely stay a good quality game and setting on the DS. Though Shepard in sprite form may be a bit hilarious.

I dont see any reason why they should bring mass effect 2 over to the ps3 unless they release the 1st one to it b/c it would be pointless b/c ps3 owners wont be able to play it the way it is supposed to be played as in the decsions you make change the outcome of the next game.

Y'know...Mass Effect is one of those games that grabs you when you first play it; most Bioware games are like that.

Then, the horrible Bioware reality comes into play on the 3rd playthrough: the story and background information is awesome and really well thought out...but the coding, execution, customization, and level design is piss poor.

Combat's barely passable. There is no gradual curve on money...you get nothing for the first half of the game and then suddenly you're hit with so much cash that you get to buy all the "Win Button" guns before you're even to the 3rd planet. The "choice" they always go with is either "super boyscout" or "puppy-kicking jackass". Let's not get started on the Mako missions.

If you only play Mass Effect once, maybe twice, the game is a gem. The third+ time around though...oh man...

How the hell could this game survive on the DS? the touch screen would seem useless and graphics would be piss poor. The only way this game could possibly do well if its on the PSP so the graphics would be good, but even that doesn't seem like a very good idea.

Port it to the PS3 so people will actually buy it and play it. Or, at least the PSP. But I guess If they had to pick a hand held, why not make it for the one that sold more.

Bioware releases games slower than Blizzard does. Mass Effect 2 won't be announced for at least 2 more years, more likely than not.
