G-Phoria Winners Are Announced!

G-Phoria is over and we've got the winners! The past twelve months have been unprecedented in terms of quality games coming out for home consoles.

Halo 3 narrowly topped the competition and won Game of the Year in the closest vote in G-Phoria history.

how the hell did niko bellic win best character? he wasn't original, had no good lines, and poor motivation. GLaDOS, on the other hand, is the funniest thing to ever come out of a game

To kick it off, staychisel u do realise Xbots outweigh Sony supports prolly on a 3:1 margin right? And yea Halo 3 does deserve it. Its the only thing that kept the 360 alive. Cant blame u guys for liking a game when u have no other alternative.

With that said, MGS4 still only ost by 40 votes. Even with the massive amount of M$ supporters on this site. Atleast a few, not including yourself, are open minded enough to vote the correct way.

I don't think either Halo 3 or Niko Belic should have one their categories. Halo 3 has good online but other than that it's just another average shooter. Call of Duty 4 or Bioshock were more deserving of the title Game of the Year.

Im not annoyed at all Halo 3 won...I know in my heart it isnt a good game, And its only for online. While MGS4 is a truly good game, And doesnt need anymore recognition...So good job Halo 3 you have more fanboys than MGS4. Also if MGS4 didnt win the Best Graphics I would of been pissed, But it did so im happy.

I think GTA 4 should have won it personally, although I am not surprised that the moderate multi platform candidate couldn't beat out the Sony and Microsoft partisan candidates of MGS4 and Halo. I own a 360 so I can't really give an informed opinion of MGS4; but since I'm not a fan of stealth, super long cut scenes or illogical Japanese plot lines I doubt it would have been my cup of tea no matter how well executed it was. I do however own Halo 3 and while I do think its a great game; I can't honestly say that it provided me anywhere near the amount of variety or longevity that GTA 4 has.

well ,it's all said and done, so there's nothing we can do about it. Halo 3 only got game of the year ,because of all the fanboys. It didn't even win Best shooter or Online play. COD4 did ,so shouldn't it be game of the year. MGS4 won best voice acting ,and graphics so it also should of won it ,instead of Halo. And finally, of couse Xbox won , so theres no point in even bringing it up. There are way too many fanboys for that system. And besides I bet the PS3 won second place with like, 15%. the votes where divided between too many good systems. They didn't say the xbox is better, it just had more votes for favorite system.

halo 3 offers an epic campaign in both single player and co-operative play-modes (unlike mgs4), a continuation in a story that has always been loved by it's fans (unlike the mgs series), an online mode that is true and tested on both console and pc (again, mgs4 cannot say the same)..

on top of that, halo 3 was a complete package right out of the box. custom soundtracks in online matches, friend invites and private chats, theatre/video editing mode, map editing/customization..

I dont see why every one is upset that halo 3 won game of the year it has a very good single player much better then halo 2 and one of the best multiplayer modes out there and pepole will keep on coming back to it.
I also thught that halo was going to win best multiplayer b/c its on top of the xbox live list.
I also dont see why people say a game is bad when they havent even played it before thats like me saying I think MGS4 sucks and I havent played it yet but I know its a good game.

all the hate on me but you all still avoiding the facts that mgs4 was only packaged as a movie.

halo 3 has so many features that wouldn't be possible on mgs4 because it was simply never thought of on mgs4. you're linear levels and cardboard boxes simply weren't enough this time, or last time, or the next time ;D

Halo 3 winning GOTY was certainly a surprise, as I was expecting either COD4, MGS4, or GTA4 to take it (huh, all 4's). However, that's still not as bad as Mario Kart Wii winning best racing game when the race was so clear cut. Let's look at the five candidates:

- Gran Turismo 5: Prologue, a demo that is big enough to be charged for.
- Nascar 09, a game about driving in ovals.
- Burnout Paradise, a neat free-roaming racer that unfortunately does a terrible job in event design.

U know for a better part of your eulogy, u basically described MGS4 and not Halo. Such as a Epic Single player, and MGS has been around for over 20 years. And ya know what? You know whats funny? I actually voted for Halo 3 as the best multiplayer online, and I'm a PS3 fanboy. But how you people voted a game that came out last year as GOTY this year, is crazy to me. This is just proof that no matter how good of a story a game has, Halo will win because it's a well known game. This is just a sad let down. Why was it even up for GOTY? Didn't get it last year, so you had to give it another chance this year? You know theirs more Halo fanboys than any other.

Just because a game IS better than another game doesn't mean it should win. Keep in mind that its about what the majority thinks and the majority thinks Halo3 should win. You may be right, but hey, technically your freaks. ;)

I liked halo series it, had a lot of potential, but halo 3 was very disappointing. Only thing it has goin for it is all those tricks put in the game; 4 player co-op, the theater, and forge was extremely innovative.

Btw, is it just me or the MGS4 fans are starting to foam at the mouth? Welcome to the idiot fanboy club!

Are you seriously saying that Halo 3 is better than MGS4? That must be some strong stuff you got there. MGS4 was amazing and innovative, something I can't honestly say about Halo 3.

And in MGO, you have to actually use skill to defeat and outsmart opponents. There are skills and many other areas you must capitalize on, which can give you advantages and disadvantages. You don't just run around and shoot things (like Halo 3). Every MGS fan I know loved the entire storyline from beginning to end, including myself.

I don't consider myself a PS3 and/or Sony fanboy however, I don't consider Halo 3 a good game. There is nothing amazing nor really flawed about it. It's just extremely average, and is not the super amazing game many people lead you to think it is. Halo and Halo 2 were pretty good games, but Halo 3 is not.

(It was basically Halo 2 with an aesthetic upgrade and maybe a few more hours of gameplay. DMC4 tried that...remember that? What happened to DMC4? X-Play shat all over it, so *ahem* bias much *ahem*)

MGS4 However brought something new with every title. It was most likely the runner up. With halo there was never anything that seemed to leave an impact. People Rag on the MGS4 calling it a movie...everyone who says this is probably one of the many people who have been so largely influenced by society's extreme obsession with shooters. MGS4 was an unforgetable experience. Seriously, the people have spoken and the people love Halo. Let's go back to our games that are supposedly better than Halo. We all know which game will be among Xbox Live's top 3 most played games for the next two years.

Ok so to every one that said Halo won because of halo fanboys... NO DUH. If MGS4 had won then it would have been because of the MGS fanboys. Think people.

There are more games on the 360 so the votes are more devided so Halo still conquered when the only good non multi platform game for the PS3 was MGS4 so basically every PS3 owner is going to vote for it.

Halo is not an average shooter. Its the epitomy of the genre. COD4 is exactly like the other CODs except its modern weapons. At least Halo is the most balanced and perfect shooter out there and thats why MLG uses it. It actually take skill and strategy to win games where in COD u get kills with a few lucky shots. Look I like COD4, its good but, Halo is better.

GOTY. Halo3 was sooooo last year. Bioshock. LBP, even GOW2 on the PS3 and Xbox360 respectively has yet to come out and MGS4 was way better than shooting aliens. Also how could they put COD4 in this years bunch, i ove this game and Bioshock took the award last year but that was last year. I am so glad we don't have to rely on CBSs GVT4 anymore for gaming news these guys need to retire like the PS2. Anything to please M$. Sick.

Chris, Ok, now I've admitacly never liked the MGS series, but here's why MGS is NOT better than Halo

MGS is a story. You have to acknoledge that roughly 85% of the games aren't actually playable. That means that if you're not fond of the story, it's near impossible to enjoy the game.

Halo is a shooter. It's mechanics are so solid it's constantly being referanced by just about every other shooter out there. Like the story or not, it's primarily about the gunplay, which I honestly can't find any fault with (friendly AI's driving skills aside, anyway).

If you like the genre, I find it hard to believe you can claim Halo a poor title. Even if you like Action games, it's very easy to dislike MGS since it's got that second aspect you have to judge after the genre.

I do think before I post. Mayb perhaps if u would read more of my posts u might realise that. Im not implying PS3 sales are low of for that matter 360 sales are up. Im simply saying Xbots are more vocal. And tend to troll this site on a unbeleivable basis. And honestly, on this site, the odds are 3:1. Not because thats the ratio of 360:PS3 which I think its sumthn prolly like 1.5:1 with a year head start.

online feature was supposed to be the killer for ssbb but the wifi system was so effortlessly made
sure the subspace was new and different but it wasnt necessarily funny

OK so were all arguing what the best game is and the answer is... your not going to like it... what ever you personally like the most. This is a popularity contest and more people like Halo the most so Halo won. So if u defy the best game as the one people like the most then Halo wins. But just because Halo won doesn't mean MGS4 and COD4 arent good. Hell I like both. I like COD4 as a break from halo whe I still want a shooter. And MGS4 is good along with Games like Bioshock and Mass Effect. Mmk. i personally think that Halo 3 deserved to win. I mean the multiplayer is good, the Single player isn't bad, i mean i expected COD4 to win since it got all the super great reviews from people but i personally didn't like it compared to halo...I thought halo was better because it has a lot of different weapons, most don't play the same and it had vehicles....I thought Metal Gear Solid 4 was a really good game, but i personally thought Halo 3 was better...Not to mention you have to understand, Like they said, not many people have the PS3 compared to 360 owners...I was really shocked Halo3 won considering how COD4 and MGS4 both won quite a few awards...and to the guy thinking it's rigged by Microsoft....are you kidding....do you think that they're insecure to the ponit they need to rig a G4 awards show?

I'm surprised there weren't more Wii titles up for nomination. It is the best selling system out right now and it has a ton of great games. I'm sick of seeing shooters all the time. Wii is just fun. Smash Bros. should have won and so should have Mario Galaxy.

You make it sound like the 360 doesn't. I can name Saints Row and Bioshock right off the top of my head.

In MGS4, you can pause and skip the cutscenes. You didn't know that because you didn't play MGS4 or have a PS3, your just saying that to help make your point.

And yes, Halo 3 and MGS4 are two completely different games. But, MGS4 as a whole is much better than Halo 3. (And I don't know about anyone else, but that seemed like you were backtracking just then.).

I too voted Halo 3 for game of the year, the 4 player campaign co-op was great, i've played threw the campaign more time then call of dutys even if its arguably not as good. Where it comes down to is the multiplayer, its so colorful with infection, capture the flag, multi team, DLC slayer. Theres much more depth i think, not taking a thing away from COD4 which is my 2nd favorite shooter, but like it or not it has more variety then COD4 and obviously more people felt that way too.

I own all three systems and I also own Halo 3, MGS4,COD4, and SSBB and I gotta say MGS4 is easily the best out of the four. COD4 has the best online, and SSBB is the best party game by far, but the gameplay of MGS4 is just amazing. I thought it lacked in the online department, but I compare everything to COD4 and nothing really beats it. MGS4 has so many amazing features its not even funny and the bosses were ridiculously fun to fight. They said at Sony's E3 press conference that MGS4 was only possible on the PS3 and I gotta say I can see why. If I had to have one system out of the three I would choose my PS3.

I have a theory. I noticed that multi-plat games and PS3 games delay, though Xbox 360 games usually don't.

umm my friend owns a 360 and i own a ps3 and i can say that halo and mgs4 are equal since you really can't compare the two. i personaly love mgs online since it requires a diffrent mindset than say cod4 which i also play. i love stealth and ambushes in mgs but i pwn to easily in cod4 with a uav jammer and a sileced ak (submachingun thing. trust me it wrecks plp try it just be sneaky)

Also the fact that mgs isn't a shooter is a big one.... wait there not in the same genre? you must me the sloth i'm pwning whos running and gunning me the bear sneak up behind you and knock you out, steal ur stuff, tbag you, and then kill you.

Look, idc what any1 says, but I found a crop circle in MGS4 therefore it undoubtedly deserves GOTY. SCREW U G4!

And Halo is what kept the Xbox series alive. Halo wouldnt be jack squat if the orignal Xbox had better games, and thats even somewhat true to this day with the 360. Exclusive wise u got well actually just Halo 3 (I can get Gears and Mass effect for my comp).

Its quite easy to make a game famous when its the only choice.

Its kinda like in football when a RB gets over 1000 yards in a season. Why is that? cuz theres not a decent QB, or the recievers arnt there. That means their ways of scoring are limioted to the running game

Now the reason why theres no overwhelming shining star in Sonys library, is because of its vast majority of games.PS3 users arnt limited to make 1 or 2 choices but rather 6 or 7.

Sorry, but MGS4 is more of a movie than a game. It was lucky too even be considered for anything related to games.

Halo 3: I have to admit that even as a person who is not into FPS this game got my attention. It's fun, has the forge. and other cool online features.

360: Come on now people. Look at the number of great games for the system. And how many times have PS3 fans gotten excited to get a few games that were on the 360 first.

MGO is great. Sure, it may not be the best multiplayer game on the market, but Konami and Kojima productions knows that a game should be a good game (mainly single player) first and should be a multiplayer game second.

Halo sucks because it rocks and is only on the XBOX 360. PS3 fans will not be able to understand what it means to play an exclusive game beyond the one or two that they have. Yeah Halo is a multiplayer but it is also a ahem...GAME. If so many people played it, liked it, voted for it then thats it. MSG4 was a cool game, don't get me wrong but for so many PS3ers crying "fan boy", the fact that the game was even made makes you all hypocrites. The game was only made because the fans demanded it. It really didn't do too much different from the other MGS games though, just a few shiny features for the next gen and really long cut scenes. I'm sorry if I like to actually play my games.

Halo 3's Campaign sucks and so does CoD4's. They are both multiplayer games and nothing else. And sony fans boys are ticked off because MGS4 didn't get game of the year. The reason is because more 360 fan boys voted for Halo 3 and and same thing for the best system. They don't rig it. Its the fan boys they out number you sony fan boys. also GTA 4 wasn't as good as GTA:SA, there is more to do in SA after you beat it other than hang with your virtual friends. next year Saints Row 2 or Gears 2 will get GoTY next year.

HALO3 SUCKS ASS CUZ IT'S A GENIRIC FPS THAT ONLY HAS GOOD ONLINE HARGY HAR HAR!

this the argument of most people but i have to say it's not really genirc since it pulls it off well but if that was the one game i had to play for eternity it wouldn't be it. niether would cod4, tf2, mgs4, bioshock, or any other game.

well i personally don't care all the games listed were great and the best is a matter of personal opinion.

Butlets go back to kindergardern anyways and argue how black is better than green and visa versa :D

halo 3 was a fantastic game and truly deserved goty
although i am surprised cod4 didnt win because it was a multyplatform while halo 3 was just xbox which says that alot of xbox owners liked it more than cod4 and more ps3 owners like mgs4 more then cod4
now i like all 3 but like i said halo deserved it
the series has a better plot then most if not all video games (and alot of movies)...

To set the record straight. I normally dont make foolish childish posts. Ask any person on here who actually reads my posts and they will vouch saying im not childish and im generally on the mark. But right now all im doing is trying to flame (1st time, and yes Im ashamed).

But the main reason; Halo 3? Come on. Halo 3 was last year as was Bioshock. But that aside, Halo 3 didnt win one award in any category it was nominated for. Hows the game of the year not win a sub category? Yet it manages to beat out MGS4, COD4, Bioshock, and GTA4. Its rediculous.

I really don't think Halo 3 deserved it, all Halo 3 has going for is the multiplayer. Story wasn't that good. Games that should deserved it would be BioShock or Call of Duty 4.

1} MGS4 should've won GPhoria. It won sub-categories, and only lost by 40 votes. Although it doesn't matter that much. What really matters is GOTY in December.

2} GLADOS, or heck even Drebin should've won for Best New Character over Niko Belic.

3} Longest Lasting Game should've been COD4, MGS4, or Halo 3. Halo 3 and COD4 for Online, and MGS4 for Online, and you can play through it multiple times, multiple ways, without getting bored. And you get lots of rewards, like Facecamo, weapons, etc.

4} Burnout Paradise should've won Best Racing Game. I've only tried the demo, but it was awesome just speeding on the beach and doing flips and spins.

I think the reason people hate on Halo is because it is ALWAYS cool to hate what is popular. People always want to be an outsider, and that kind of Shyte pisses me off. Lets be honest, you probably never played Halo. Thats fine. But, to insult or say a game "blows" because many copies of it have been returned is just dumb.

Halo 3 definetely didn't deserve GotY and this is coming from a person who's played it for countless hours and still going. Don't get me wrong. I personally think Halo 3 is truely a good game, but just not GotY material because since the game had a lackluster story, online multiplayer is all it really had and CoD4 clearly outweighted it in that category.

Also, Niko didn't deserve to win as best new character since out of all the characters I've met or seen throughout GTA4, I was more intrested in Dimitri and to me, should of been on the list at the very least. Niko didn't once interested me in anyway, especially in his background. Travis Touchdown on the other hand, should of been best new character and I've enjoyed him as a whole.

As a gamer who plays pretty much every system and tends to try out every major game I gotta say, Team Fortress 2 is WAAAAY better than most of the games you guys are talking about. I'm guessing most people here have only played the console version tho and therefore have been deprived of playing it the right way. I'm gonna guess that CoD4 is better than TF2 as console ports, but this doesn't hold true at all for the PC versions.
I'm kinda surprised Halo 3 is on the list and more surprised it won. It's a very mediocre console FPS (which makes it a terrible FPS), a mediocre sci-fi game, and it's more often than not beat on XBL by CoD4.
Metal Gear Solid 4 was a cool game. Cinematic greatness and story and graphics etc is good and all, but MGS4's online is just as bad as Halo 3's. It's totally worth owning and beating a couple times, but it's NOT worth all the hype.

007 was great for making fps good, first halo had the grenade and melee system, and zelda oot had the 3d dungeon puzzle solving.
i just think that there arent good games these days because nothin is revolutionary

GTA4 I haven't actually played yet, but it's looking to be just about the same as the last couple GTAs with better graphics. *shrug*

Call Of Duty 4 really IS a great shooter and has fantastic multiplayer on top of a decent campaign mode. The problem with CoD4 is that the multiplayer only has a certain set of maps that you'd regularly want to play, you're not so much a "team" as a group of guys with similar uniforms who spawn in the same areas, and once you've unlocked all the weapons and perks it all boils down to one or two sets of weapons that you'll ever use, and even then there's not a whole lot of difference between them.

i thought halo 1 was awesome the rest of the series really hasnt lived up to that. halo 3 wasnt new and exiting it was same old thing. i thought either bioshock or cod 4 should have one because they both had more to offer. and for all u ps3 pple pissed off about 360 and halo 3 "kept 360 alive" no it didnt. 360 never needed anything to keep it alive its been doing fine. it won because its a better value with twice as many games to choose from look at the sole ps3 game so far that is huge mgs 4.

that is insane, in 4 hours, 1421 reviews(estimate) bioshock was getting kind of old, so was mass effect so im suprised that even made it on. halo 3 might have not been the best, but unfortunatly, there are more 360 fanboys than ps3 fanboys, so halo 3 got it. im a 360 owner, but i voted for gta just for the hell of it. Cod4 definatly deserved its awards, and i had no problems with all the other award winners.

i just love how i only care about resident evil and final fantasy, and i was so damn close to getting a ps3, and then i found out that not only re 5 is going green, but so is the big double F on thier most highly anticipated main series game too! so i laughed and cried and gave my xbox a kiss, because shes such a sneeky devil.
i also care about devil may cry but thats what i used as a reson to decide which of the 2 consoles i should buy. . all 3 of those games were sony's and now they're microsoft's

HALO 3 DID NOT WIN BEST SHOOTER OR BEST ONLINE.
THEREFORE, THAT PROVES THAT IT ISNT JUST GOOD ON MULTIPLAYER, THAT WOULD BE COD4.

i can't beilve that GTA 4 won longest lasting games mass effect should have won it totally because the story is really long and you need to play it through like 3x to get the entire experince, also i love Halo 3 and i think the continuous change of playlists like double XP weekend and fun as hell custom matchs like infection, CTF, and straight up slayer made it the most deserving

Well, It's over. Halo won this year, and will probaly win next year. Oh wait, Gears will be out by then so you'll have a game that was released this year that will win next year. G4's happy, 360 fans are happy, based on the post, so why can't we just be happy for them.

Great job on the voting fellas. We did our jobs, and the best game won. ha haha hahahahaha. And, why do you want Staychisel to die? He has the most fair, unbiased post on here. Anyway, at least A PS3 game was aknowleaged this year. Maybe next year the black box will get the props it deserves when the games keep coming and the critics that never played one will shut the hell up.

I'm happy METAL GEAR SOLID finally got some G-Phoria respect. Their is not a single game out there that can compete with the voice acting of Metal Gear Solid games, but then again they have to bring their Agame cause most of the MGS games are story based. I'm actually kinda surprised they won for best graphics. But i'm not gonna aruge the graphics for MGS4 are pretty AMAZING, especially if you beat one of the Beauty Corps and see their slithering body. Kinda GROSS an kinda sexy, thanks PS3 graphics!

GOTY. Halo3 was sooooo last year. Bioshock. LBP, even GOW2 on the PS3 and Xbox360 respectively has yet to come out and MGS4 was way better than shooting aliens. Also how could they put COD4 in this years bunch, i ove this game and Bioshock took the award last year but that was last year. I am so glad we don't have to rely on CBSs GVT4 anymore for gaming news these guys need to retire like the PS2. Anything to please M$. Sick.
