Sony Speaks About PSP's Status

Posted by John Manalang - Friday, August 01, 2008 11:56 AM

As far as exclusives and AAA quality titles go, Sony's Playstation Portable had a good start this year, picking up the momentum with Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII and God of War: Chains of Olympus. However, looking over the horizon and its current status, what else can we expect from Sony's handheld?

In a MTVMultiplayer interview with Sony Marketing head John Koller, he talked about what support the system needed in order to guarantee its success for the future. “Where we are today is the result of a development cycle from 18 months ago,” said Koller, speaking about how PSP sales weren't as good as today back then. In Japan, the PSP sold more than the mighty Nintendo consoles - both DS and Wii - which they could thank Capcom for their Monster Hunter PSP series.

“[We've told developers to think about] how they create the games,” he said, in hopes of getting more original content from third-party publishers instead of ports. Koller also mentioned about Sony's first-party plans - a strategy where Sony seems to be focused going forward with their systems - with Resistance: Retribution. Check out the rest of the interview from the source link, and make sure you let us know what would you want to see happen on Sony's portable device. Also, check out a video for Resistance: Retribution after the cut.

PSP is sick. I love it's integration with the PS3. For example, I downloaded a couple of Family Guy episodes last week on my PS3 and then effortlessly transferred them to my PSP. Love it! And God of War Chains of Olympus was freakin' epic.

On the other hand, the Nintendo DS is a toy for little kids. My 8 year old niece love the DS, need I say more?

@eamadden06

family guy is available on PSN...
and its "copyrighted", not copywritten,
besides, there really isnt anything thats not illegal with copyright .....

on the note of the PSP, sony is doing great with the platform, maybe a few more games would be nice though

Do not, I repeat, DO NOT respond to anything emaddamOSux says people. He/she is not worth anyone's time.

I hate to say it but if you look at the amount of games coming out for PSP this year on ebgames its almost nothing. This system is GONE and sony isnt telling us they are making a new system. Sony has stated they HATED the UMD and clearly its time to phaze it out. I LOVE my PSP but its dead and burried.

Yah even though the psp has some cool features espicially syncing with your psp, the psp don't have that many good games other than god of war chains of olympus.

There is a 3rd party PSP game named Underwater Wars that is currently being developed by a Russian firm named Biart. It is also being made for 2 more platforms as well. It is a squad-based shooter where the player must undertake various missions which take place underwater, on the seas, and on shore. One of the coolest pieces of equipment that your playable character has is a jet-pack. This item allows your character to swim faster underwater plus you can use it in the air as well. Look out for more info about this game during the Leipzig Games Convention (Aug. 22-24). For more info, check out these links:

PARASITE EVE 3 is COMING TO THE PSP!!!!!!!!!!

I loved the first one, never played the 2nd one but i heard it wasn't that good.

and for those of you who do not know what parasite eve is...(shame on you!!!!)

it was like Final Fantasy 7 meets Resident Evil. mix in with a little Noir elements.
