'Electric Playground' Goes Daily

Posted by Stephen Johnson - Thursday, July 31, 2008 9:54 AM

The greatest behind-the-scenes videogame show ever, G4's own Electric Playground, is expanding! Starting  August 18, 2008, Electric Playground is going daily, morphing into an entertainment news magazine that profiles all of the latest developments in the videogame universe and all the stuff gamers are obsessed with.

If you're up North in Canada, you can check it out on G4TechTV, and if you're in the States, you can turn your web browser right here to G4tv.com or your video-on-demand provider, where we'll be bringing you highlights from each week’s episodes in HD!

Here's what's in store: In addition to all of the on-location game developer and publisher visits and the game previews that EP has built its reputation on, they'll also be profiling filmmakers, animators, comic book creators, musicians, novelists, visual effects professionals, websites, gadgets, television programs, toy and collectible makers, athletes, and will be at the conventions and events that gamers care about. The Electric Playground's will travel the world covering the hottest stuff going on in the game, tech and entertainment worlds. They'll be on location  all over the earth, with full time crews in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver.

Great to see the expanded coverage, but is there any plans to add EP back to the TV line-up here in the States? Wouldn't the 8:30/7:30 slot after X-Play be a great fit? It seems G4 has a lot of faith in EP, but do they just want to use it to boost the website and podcasts, or are there future plans for the program?

I'm also starting to think that G4 is focusing more on the future of the site rather than the channel. What they need to do is just re-launch tJudgment Day. During it's run on the channel it was by far the best of the classic shows. Hell, it was the show that got into the channel. X-Play is awesome, no debate there, but it can't touch what JD was. I'm glad to see Vic back, but I'd rather have a full-length, on channel-show. Just a thought, G4.

I'll watch if Jade Raymond comes back. God she's hot.

This is all great, but why not air this on G4 USA? I don't understand why not.

We should be able to watch it on t.v. here on the States too. Is not like there aren't any slots abailable, I mean instead of playing re-runs of cops or cheaters... which by the way don't exacly scream gamers. G4 could very well play the Electric Playground on one of those time slots.
