It looks like Depp will be taking up another set of hats, but instead of going to a factory, he'll be hosting his own tea party. Filmonic reports that the Pirates of The Carribean star is rumored to play as The Mad Hatter in Tim Burton's vision of Alice in Wonderland. The film is currently set for a 2010 release.
Mia Wasikowska (star of the upcoming film, Amelia) will be following the white rabbit as Alice in Burton's film. If Depp was confirmed for the role, then the fantasy tale would be his seventh film with the Nightmare Before Christmas creator. The last project the duo were in was last year's Oscar winning Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, which won "Best Art Direction" and earned Mr. Depp a "Best Actor" nomination.
Expect this "rumor" to be confirmed in the near future. Alice In Wonderland will begin filming this November.

Sweeney Todd kicked @$$!
Alice in Wonderland should be creepy and weird, not like the disney version.

That's the problem with some of burton's films. Chocolate factory was a prime example.
If you're going to make a re-make, make it worth re-making. Don't just up the visuals ala star wars special edition.
Me and you both...what a letdown. ha
haha wow me too
I hope he keeps it true to the book, and ONLY the book. No "Through the Looking Glass" elements, just "Wonderland's" plot. I hate when movies put the Tweedles and other characters into the wrong story.
