'Cowboy Bebop' Live Action Film

Posted by John Manalang - Thursday, July 24, 2008 4:53 PM

Spike is putting out his cigs and rallying up his intergalactic group to hit the big screen. In an interview with IF Magazine, producer Erwin Stoff is working with Fox to make a live-action feature film of the anime favorite, Cowboy Bebop.

"I'm really excited to be working on it," said Stoff, who also produced A Scanner Darkly, starring Keanu Reeves and Robert Downey Jr. Originally released in Japan on 1998, Cowboy Bebop revolves around the story of Spike and his crew of bounty hunters (Cowboys) as they go around galaxies searching for the next loot. An animated feature film, Cowboy Bebop The Movie, was released in the U.S. in 2002.

Space cowboys, hot chicks and guns - count us all in.

This is a terrible, terrible idea. A LIVE ACTION Cowboy Bebop movie....are these people serious and Americans making it no less.......hopefully the Japanese won't release the rights and this atrocity will never see the light of day

I use to watch this show back in middle school. A live action version might be kinda cool.

Not joking, me and my buddy were talking about a live action of Bebop 4 months ago. They've tapped my room! This should be an exciting development.

Hm... Wonder who will star as who? I haven't the slightest... except for Jet - I think Jeff Bridges would be able to pull it off.

Im sure Dragon Ball will bomb, but since one of the producers from A Scanner Darkly[great movie] is involved with Cowboy Bebop, this might turn out to be a good movie. It also has a more easy story to adapt into live-action film given how realistic the story and characters are. So to Fox, do not change a thing when turning this into a live-action film. Because everything is perfect as it is. Just tell the tale of Spike trying to run from his past with the aid of Jet, along the way meeting Ed, Faye and Ein. There is no reason to change the story for a western-american audience because America has already seen movies and TV shows with simular plots.

OMG!!!!!NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

I swear if they kill this great show.......

I don't follow the thought process of some... If they make a live action movie and it "sucks" (like everything else does according to the internet) so what? It has nothing to do whatsoever with how good the anime is/was.

Look at Battlefield Earth- one of the worst movies ever made, and yet the book remains one of the most epic and amazing tales ever.

One has nothing to do with the other. And hey- it may be good... won't know until you try- so let 'er rip!

I will not see this movie i have a feeling it would be the end of life as we know if i see :(

Well, I hope the producers are ready to get their film scrutinized down to the number of bullets coming out of Spikes gun

This can only be incredibly awesome or the most epic fail of all time. No middle ground. If they get input from the creaters and everyone who made the series, the right cast could pull this off. However the later seems almost impossible to pull off. I can't think of single real actor that could appease the fanboys (like me) for any one of the main characters let alone all four.

Right now I'm more worried that a bunch of chumps are going to ruin my favorite show than I am excited about the possiblities that this movie could bring.

I think that they could do it

First Watchmen...now this. Why don't they just destroy my baby pictures and kill my dog too?

Spike should be played by Adrien Brody. Jet should be played by Jeff Bridges. Faye should be played by Selma Blair. Ed could be played by Dakota Fanning. Holler!!

Live action Cowboy Bebop already exists. It's called Firefly, and it was awesome.

Man thats crap!!!! Movie heads should come up with there own idea's,instead of trying to ruin a good shows reputation!!!

Posted by EvoDC - Friday, July 25, 2008 6:41 PM

Only 1 person i can think of to play spike. And thats Ryan Renolds.

Posted by HaseoGUA - Monday, July 28, 2008 7:33 AM

I don't think I could listen to Spike if it was Steve Blum's voice coming out of his mouth. Plus really actors don't look and good as their animated counter parts. I don't, I guess I wait to see the reveiws.

Posted by phil3975 - Thursday, July 31, 2008 6:53 PM

Well all I can say is Keanu Reeves as Spike? Thats all you need to know to know this will blow... hell get some of the English dub voice actors for it at least then it wont be bad on the acting side, or they could just run the cowboy bebop movie in theaters instead...

Posted by Tortilla - Tuesday, August 5, 2008 7:59 PM

Keanu reeves No! I don't even really like the idea of thise becoming live action because im picky about who they would choose, and getting the martial arts down. Although I will say Ryan Renolds does have the sharp chiseled facial features of spike, but not voice.

cowboy bebop has got to be one of the best, however, i DO NOT, see any similarities with the show and keanu reeves...no way!! maybe a BUFF version of GEORGE CLOONEY as JET!! hahahah
