Pirates of The Caribbean mega-producer Jerry Bruckheimer plans to make his new project more than just a mirage. He told Sci Fi news that his latest project, a film adaptation of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, will take inspiration from every game in the series since its debut on 1989.
"We worked with the creators of the game and with some writers, so it takes it to another level," said Bruckheimer. Reports about the film stated that the storyline will follow the Sands of Time game trilogy from Ubisoft that started in 2003, which involved the "Dagger of Time" and the "Hourglass". But when Bruckheimer was asked if audiences are going to see the prince's signature "jump across a gap and grab onto an edge for dear life" move, he said, "Well, we'll try." - so what the hell happened to the inspiration?
Bruckheimer has a knack for film spectacles judging from Pirates and (National)Treasures, so we're not so worried about seeing a lot of those in this current project. Jake Gyllenhaal will be taking the prince's garb as Prince Dastan (he's not supposed to have a name!) while Sir Ben Kingsley will be playing the character, Nizam. Prince of Persia is due out June 2009.
