Breathe a sigh of relief, The Internet: E3 08 is finished! We caught up with X-Play producer and on air talent Blair Herter after the show and got his post-mortem on what ruled, who drooled, who won and who lost. Here's what Herter had to say:
Stephen Johnson: What was your favorite thing about the show?
The Rock Band 2 party. It was the best E3 party I've ever been to, and I’ve been to a bazillion. I mean, The Who played. How could you beat that? As for game of the show: My personal choice is LittleBigPlanet. If you’re going on innovation alone, the game is ridiculous. Prince of Persia is a dark horse candidate for game of the show too.
SJ: Who lost?
I was most disappointed by Nintendo. It seems like they’re in the position that Sony was in a few years ago. They’re so complacent and successful that they feel like they don’t have to do anything nice for the fans. Give me something here: Kid Icarus? Zelda? Anything, Nintendo.
SJ: Who won?
I’m really excited by what EA is doing. They’re doing the opposite of Nintendo. They could easily sit back and rake in money, but they’re not. Their developers are really passionate about making great games, and it shows with what they brought to the show: Dead Space--we'll’ll be writing about Dead Space 7 in 10 years. Also, how amazing is NBA Live’s Dynamic DNA?
SJ: Some people have been making noise about the format of the show overall...what did you think?
The E3 set-up was great. The way its is now lets media outlets really get inside E3, so the viewers at home are getting just as much access to games as we are. Well, except we get to play games while sitting in private suites and sipping free drinks served by hotties.
SJ: Nice! Anything else you'd like to add?
Yes. I’d like to publicly proclaim my love for Alison Haislip. Oh, and I saw Sessler's Soapbox producer Jon Hunt totally making out with a dude—and he was into it.
