Hands On: 'Ratchet And Clank Future: Quest For Booty'

Sony platformer fans, stand up from your fetal positions as there is no need to cry anymore: We bring you a hands on demo of your favorite Lombax and robot sidekick with Ratchet And Clank Future: Quest For Booty. This expansion picks off right where its predecessor, Ratchet And Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, left off with all new gadgets and levels.

So after you've dusted yourself off and gathered enough some self-esteem, hit the jump to see what developer Insomniac has to offer on their new game.

*The demo was from an early build in E3 2008

Visuals: Tools of Destruction was already a vibrant and vivid looking title and Quest for Booty retains the same description. Although the environments on the demo we played were a little brighter compared to the first one, Quest for Booty still had the same animation and style. Lush forests, detailed structures and wacky enemies were all present. There's really no significant change from the graphics compared to the first one, but changes weren't necessary.

Gameplay: During Sony's press conference on Tuesday, Insomniac mentioned that Quest for Booty will give players more platforming elements than action. We experienced exactly what Insomniac had described when we played the demo and it was an absolute blast. The game retains the same control from Tools,  but Ratchet's trusty wrench gains a new ability in Quest for Booty. The wrench's head now detaches to add another level of puzzle/platforming element into the game. The new ability is activated by holding R2 next to a valid target (a wrench icon will appear on it) and pressing the square button. After that, Ratchet can turn the screw/lever or pull a platform with the right analog stick.

For instance, one of the missions in the demo was to activate turbines that were located on top of towers. Of course, each tower had its own unique obstacle, where Ratchet must use his new wrench ability to latch on to a screw and turn a platform so he can use it as a stepping ground. Another use of the wrench ability in the demo was having the wrench head latch onto the side of a spring platform, as Ratchet then pulls it back so he can step on it and reach higher ground. Just this new ability alone opens up a world of possibilities in the game and we're excited to see more.

Ratchet And Clank Future: Quest for Booty will be available for the PS3 later this year via Playstation Network download (and it's only $15!). For now, check out the game's trailer below.

Any news of trophy support of R&C QFB?

It should. Sony has stated that they want their games to have trohy support by at early next year. Plus with Insomniac as a First party developer, I'm counting on it.
