In their podcast last week, Bungie hinted that they may announce "something" new today, possibly during Microsoft's press conference at 1:00 pm ET. Gamespot may have a suggestion to what Bungie has in store for us, as they reported from a source close to the studio's development slate, that a new squad-based Halo game is currently in development. However, Master Chief, Halo 1, 2 and 3's main protagonist, will not be present in the new, rumored title.
The source reports that the new Halo spin-off will be like "a cross between Ghost Recon and Gears of War." Sounds like a winning combination but also, like Gears of War, the new title will be "less cartoony" and will feature a "more bloody, violent, and grim" battle between UNSC forces and the Covenant. This rumored title could also be the Halo: Forerunner project first speculated in 2006.
Stay tuned for our live-streaming of MIcrosoft's press conference in a few hours to find out all the surprises and excitement on this year's E3.
