Eidos and Funcom are happy to announce that "more than 700,000 gamers have now signed up for an Age of Conan account."
Age of Conan is still selling well at retail, according to a press release from Funcom, topping many of the PC sales charts around the world.
The announcement comes just as the second month of release kicks off for the MMO, which is a key point in an MMO's potential life. This is the time when the free trial expires for the early adopters and paid accounts become the new measurement for the game's success.
It would appear that Age of Conan is in good position. Morten Larssen, VP of Sales & Marketing at Funcom, stated that "with more than 700,000 accounts created so far we have a fantastic platform to build from, and we will continue to market the game to further drive numbers in the months to come. It also means that Funcom can dedicate significant development resources on evolving the game even further, naturally giving us a great hope for the future of Age of Conan.”

Age of Conan Continues to Dominate Retail Charts
More Than 700,000 Gamers Have Registered for Accounts
Durham, NC - June 30, 2008
Eidos and Funcom are proud to announce that Age of Conan continues to dominate the PC sales charts in all markets where the game is available. Over the last few weeks the game has remained the overall #1 PC game in most European markets, whilst also performing tremendously well on several all-format charts. In the US, Age of Conan impressively conquered the #1 PC spot for the first two weeks of available NPD data. Due to the amazing interest surrounding the game, more than 700,000 gamers have now signed up for an Age of Conan account. In the second month after release it is also clear that Age of Conan has taken the position as the undisputed #2 subscription MMO in the western world.
When Age of Conan stormed into retail stores as what we believe to be the most pre-ordered original PC game in history, it instantly became the best selling PC game of May. The pace at which Age of Conan sold made it one of the fastest selling PC games of all times, and Funcom and Eidos are very satisfied to see the positive sales trend continue. As all countries report sales differently, it is not possible to get a complete overview of the exact box sales at the time of writing, but Age of Conan remains the top selling PC game in the majority of all released markets. This includes being the #1 overall PC game in June in the Nordic countries, Oceania, Germany, France and Spain, as well a top three contender in all other markets where the game is out. No substantial sales data for June is yet available from the US market, but Age of Conan was the #1 PC game in the latest official NPD update.
“That Age of Conan remains #1 in retail stores several weeks after release is of incredible importance to us, and proves that the game has a large potential beyond the early adopters,” said Morten Larssen, VP of Sales & Marketing in Funcom. “With more than 700,000 accounts created so far we have a fantastic platform to build from, and we will continue to market the game to further drive numbers in the months to come. It also means that Funcom can dedicate significant development resources on evolving the game even further, naturally giving us a great hope for the future of Age of Conan.”
“We are incredibly pleased to see Age of Conan turning into an MMO phenomenon,” said Gaute Godager, Game Director on Age of Conan. “As an MMO company we know that a good start is just the beginning for a virtual world. All we care about now is to make Age of Conan into an even better game, and we have extensive plans to ensure that Age of Conan remains a top MMO alternative for many years to come.”

Now if there can just be a decent sci-fi MMO instead of the flood of dragons, swords, and elves that's the norm of the MMO market.

Notice the trend in the stock since release...that is called a plummet.
Yeah...well you see when a company isn't making money they cut workforce...then other expenses...so if stock is falling you should be concerned with playing something like an MMO. Since you need the compnay to continue to be profitable in order for content to be updated and the servers kept in good working order. So beleabub if the stock crashes and the company either goes under or pulls the plug on the huge expense that is an MMO then it would affect you.
I wish they'd cool it on the MMO's.
So many planned releases for console and PC MMO's...obviously they will fail.
If this game is a success, then pigs now have wings.
As for the stock thing, I don't know of any game to ever fail due to stocks plummeting. Plus if stocks start to fall you really shouldn't stop playing or give up. That will only lead to the games failure for sure. Honestly I don't think this game has anything to worry about anytime soon considering all the talk it keeps getting.
This game really sucks and is about a year to early as bad as it is.. DEATH TO AOC! Love live WOW
This game will be almost totally dead within 60 more days. They are doing the same thing they did with Vanguard which completely tanked. Save your money on this POS
So that's how it works? they only made 700k copies and sent them out? Holy crap you're a douchebag even for trying to troll.
And no, stocks don't affect the game, because look at blizzards stock and then look at WoW, which is more of a PoS.
- Everything is instanced. Want to go into an Inn? Loading screen. Want to go to another zone? Loading screen. Forgot something in the bank? Loading screen. You get the idea.
- Melee combos have casting times. This is not an issue when fighting NPCs. This obviously becomes a huge problem in PVP. B/c while casting you are stuck in place. So, the person you are fighting can just run out of range and you miss.
- The computer reqs. are crazy. I have a great system and my fps goes from 50-60 down to 10-12 while in a city or around alot of other people.
- The starting area is great. However, there is only one starting zone, so if you like rolling alts. It gets old fast.
Also the loading screens are a nuisance.
The combat system isn't innovative. It's just more buttons to press for the same stupid looking move.
Most the stuff they advertised (i.e. prison system) isn't in the game yet.
Who cares if it's a "mature" game. Do you not see enough boobies in real life that you have to resort to CG?
