Madden Players Cop To Game Addictions

Posted by Frank Meyer - Friday, June 27, 2008 1:39 PM

Electronic Arts hosted a swinging soirée/press conference at New York’s Touch nightclub last night to introduce Madden NFL 09 and celebrate the 20th year of the franchise.

Wooo hoooo!

Madden boxcover athletes Daunte Culpepper (2002), Marshall Faulk (2003), Ray Lewis (2005), Shaun Alexander (2007) and Vince Young (2008) were there for the EA-led roundtable, where the players named some of their favorite Madden features…and even betting strageies!

“I won and lost a few mortgage payments on a game of Madden,” Culpepper admitted. “When people see you on Madden, they assume that you’re the best. I got challenged a lot more when I got the cover.”

Marshall Faulk copped to losing a game and having to let a free agent drive his Bentley for a month, while Ray Lewis said he doesn’t bet cash, just parking and restaurants bills. Lewis also said he wished there was more Phil Collins music included on the in-game soundtrack. Seriously.

“Until I got the cover it was like some of my family really didn’t know I was any good at football,” added Shaun Alexander. “Coming off a Super Bowl, college All-Americans, it wasn’t until my cousin saw me on the cover of Madden that he said, ‘Hey, you must be pretty good.’”

But most important is that all the players on hand refuted the “Madden Curse” theories that being a madden coverboy ensured you will start sucking on the field. They did, however, admit that being on a cover gives the other team an added incentive to find them on the field in real games. Jealous bastards…

Madden NFL 09 will be available August 12 on just about every consule known to man...except PC.
