World's Largest Laser Almost Ready

Posted June 25, 2008 - By TylerColfax

The National Ignition Facility in Livermore, CA is close to finishing the world's largest laser. The story could end right there because of the colossal coolness that encompasses. However, one of the uses for this laser could be the fusion of hydrogen isotopes, resulting in plasma, of which the heat could be used to create virtually endless energy.

Researchers are optimistic that the completed laser in 2009 will lead to a critical discovery in 2010 resulting in an increase in the world's energy. This could mean rising gas prices are insignificant sooner than big oil would have liked. yay.
