George Carlin will receive the prestigious Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, perhaps the most prestigious award a comedian can win, posthumously, marking the first time that someone will be given that particular award after their death. Carlin had been announced as the recipient of the award before his death, so this is not an honorarium, it's the prize he would have won anyway.
Still, we can think of no better way to honor a man who was truly one of the great comedians of our time than to gather others in his name and celebrate his life in the same breath as Mark Twain, a man who Carlin surely shared spirits with.
