Rumor: 'Call of Duty 6' will be Science Fiction Based?

Posted by Brian Leahy - Tuesday, June 24, 2008 11:30 AM

As Infinity Wards gets to work on their next game while Call of Duty: World of War steps into the spotlight, everyone wants to know: What is Infinity Ward working on? Is it Call of Duty 6? Is it a new game? That's when the rumor mill starts!

Supposedly, an employee of Infinity Ward said, "We are currently working on a new sci-fi title, we cannot release any more information as of yet, we may or may not announce it at E3."

Who knows... It would follow the same progression of the Battlefield franchise: World War 2, Modern Combat, and Future Combat. We're going to ignore Battlefield: Vietnam, though.

The future was certainly good to Bungie and Halo.

So, stay tuned. A potentially fake quote may (or may not) lead to an announcement at E3 2008. G4 will definitely be there with all the coverage you could ever want so stay tuned.

GamesRadar: Call of Duty 6 goes sci-fi?

I think this is a bad idea.. i personally don't mind the Sci-Fi but some of the guys I play with may.. All 2gether we been playing for like 6 years dating back to orig Xbox, they never liked Halo bcuz its Sci-Fi & how many ppl feel the same way? I really think they should stick w/modern warfare..

Posted by hetman - Tuesday, June 24, 2008 11:37 AM

I would prefer one that takes place in the future instead of in the past.

Posted by doobist - Tuesday, June 24, 2008 11:39 AM

I hope if it is call of duty, its not too futuristic (crazy suits and weapons). It would be cool if it was a BSG type future, with missles and bullets instead of lasers and aliens.

Posted by bigmonstefan - Tuesday, June 24, 2008 11:43 AM

I want flint lock weapons and cross bows that take 30 seconds to reload. Not really, but a huge ballista would be pretty cool. using catapults to launch bubonic plague ridden body parts over the wall... I could see that. "Call to Arms".

Posted by G1adius - Tuesday, June 24, 2008 11:48 AM

It depends on how they take to the "Sci-Fi" theme I guess. Integrating new-age hi-tech guns would be sweet, like the OICW or some of the kind of weaponry showcased on the Futureweapons tv show.
If they go WAY out there like the Halo franchise they might be moving away from what their core gamers really like about the CoD series: the realism.

Posted by sinister6972 - Tuesday, June 24, 2008 11:52 AM

Man, you're going old-school bigmonstefan!! Straight up old-school!!! But I will admit, I would be intrigued to see something like that. Hey, we can't complain how they'll look now...now that's high-tech!

wow nice but no halo plz hate that sucker!!!

Posted by DeltaFive - Tuesday, June 24, 2008 12:17 PM

Call of Duty 6 would be awesome if it was more Science Fiction, but why don't they wait until the fifth one comes out first?

Posted by cgore88 - Tuesday, June 24, 2008 12:18 PM

halo is the most overrated game of all time. I think if done right this could be kinda cool.

Posted by anonomousperson - Tuesday, June 24, 2008 12:22 PM

Maybe for the online, when you get a 10 kill streak, you get to call in a AC-130 and mark up to 5 targets on the map for "KABOOM!!"

"If they go WAY out there like the Halo franchise they might be moving away from what their core gamers really like about the CoD series: the realism"

Yes because sniping with every gun in the game except the sniper rifles was so awsome and real!!!!

God COD4's MP sucked.

Personally, I liked Battlefield 2142 the least. I'm not a fan of LASER guns and what not. The arty strike sucked also.
I wasn't much of a fan of the Battlefront games, but I enjoyed a few rounds.

For me, it's all about the guns that fire bullets and not some kind of beam or pulse wave or something.
I'm ok with COD going sci-fi, if they want to, as long as the ammo is painful, deadly, flesh tearing, bone shattering metal and gives your gun one hell of a kick.

If they start doing mechs and lasers...forget it.

Posted by hetman - Tuesday, June 24, 2008 12:56 PM

@sean I love COD4 multiplayer. But I agree it is not ever realistic even on hardcore. Snipping is awesome though.

Posted by Sonicguy74 - Tuesday, June 24, 2008 12:58 PM

I'm fine with CoD turning sci-fi. In fact, as long as there's no trace of WW2 anywhere in the game, it's an 'ok' in my book as long as the weaponry doesn't dissapoint.

I'd say for futuristic put it at about 100 years ahead of us. Don't use energy weapons and what-not, but make cool looking ballistics. Something like in the Aliens movies would be cool

Posted by BONERJAM - Tuesday, June 24, 2008 1:51 PM

There is no way that COD6 is going to be a sci-fi. They would lose alot of fans with a switch to sci-fi. What I am sure is going to happen is improvements on everything Treyarch does wrong with CODW@W and then brings it back to the modern time.

Posted by TomNoddy - Tuesday, June 24, 2008 2:05 PM

I wouldn't mind a sci-fi theme if they keep it like a dark and gritty, John Conners-Terminator future where the weapons aren't too over the top and the battles are mostly ground based in battle torn cities. That I think would do nicely.

Posted by Tmidiman - Tuesday, June 24, 2008 2:06 PM

I'm not much for FPS, but if it was sci-fi as in aliens landed in this time period it could be cool. The Aleins have their high tech guns and we have what we have today for weapons.

Posted by backerman - Tuesday, June 24, 2008 2:11 PM

Cool, I don't mind sci-fi but I would like to see vietnam war. I'm sick of world war II games.

Posted by SiK - Tuesday, June 24, 2008 2:30 PM

Aww finally a Call of duty game that acutually seems good!

I trust Infinity Ward, Im sure it will be awesome, I love sci-fi anyway, Call of Duty4 has the best gameplay ever, that engine should be a standard for ALL FPS'S

Posted by mb24 - Tuesday, June 24, 2008 3:24 PM

i love how g4 acts like the only sci-fi shooter ever created was halo 3

dude your an idiot. who thinks COD4's mp sucked. NO ONE! your just mad cuz you like halo three and its mp was the same exact thing as halo two. they both suck. and you dont snipe with every weapon in the game. your just used to having to shoot a whole clip into someone to kill them. thats unrealistic. i dont care if you if your a super soldier or not. halo is gay. get over it.

Posted by BadHabit209 - Tuesday, June 24, 2008 6:34 PM

I love call of duty and all

and don't get me wrong, I'm not trying that looks a lot like halo 3 and not call of duty in that picture.

(If that offends anyone, calm down, breathe and know its a joke.)

Posted by backerman - Tuesday, June 24, 2008 8:18 PM

Maybe we can play Master Cheif in Call of Duty 6 only on Xbox 360 like exclusive characters on soul calibur series.

Posted by magopus6 - Tuesday, June 24, 2008 8:54 PM

@ tmidiman

they already have that game, its called the RESISTANCE series...given its not exactly modern (60 years ago) but the theme of aliens coming to a more modern time is already taken.

Halo was fun until COD4 came out, if youve been playing cod4 for a while then switch to halo, the difference is staggering...the overall quietness of halo's battlefields to the guns and mechanics become yawn inducing compared to COD4

Posted by pranksalot333 - Tuesday, June 24, 2008 11:36 PM

yeah! as long as there are no really high jumping, shields or taking forever to kill people. i hate halo. yes im a ps3 guy.

Posted by killsaurus_warbeard - Wednesday, June 25, 2008 12:40 AM

awesome snake on ps3, master chief on 360 epic awesome btw portal gun

Posted by foxtrot_MGS - Wednesday, June 25, 2008 8:37 AM

If this is true, it's completely amazing. I'm a sci-fi fan so I would be obligated to buy this games. I like the original halo on the PC because of the deep atmosphere bungie created. I never got all that excited about halo, though, because I wasn't a fan of the game play as much (when compared to something like COD4 or Battlefield).

Posted by SeanGE - Wednesday, June 25, 2008 8:40 AM

@ThePhud25

As a matter of fact, i havent played Halo3 online in 6 months. Oh, and the only people who think that COD4 sucks are the 4 million people and the 15,000 servers that run COD, COD:UO,COD2,and COD3 everyday. And dont try to tell me what a good COD game is, ive been playing since i got an advanced copy of the first one, lol. And ive owned every subsequent one.

Posted by gravy666 - Wednesday, June 25, 2008 1:41 PM

Well, Call of Duty 4 is sort of science fiction-y, it's a fact that you can't disarm a nuclear missile.

Posted by SEPHIROTH111111 - Wednesday, June 25, 2008 3:23 PM

As long as it doesn't become a game where you are the last of a race of super soldiers and the only hope for the future of humanity.

Also, IW, improve the AI so you don't have to lead every single charge forward.

Posted by MikeyG88 - Sunday, June 29, 2008 9:29 AM

Call of Duty 4 Future intervention would be a good title. Although, SciFi could be interesting Crysis has got that. Futuristic weapons might do the trick. Futuristic landscapes too.

Posted by JDowg1 - Wednesday, December 17, 2008 12:48 PM

Ok futuristic, but I need my M4 and M16 man just give me that much this next go around.

Posted by AndrewGamerCameron - Wednesday, March 18, 2009 5:47 PM

I think that the nazi zombies was cool what if they made that into a sequel? That would actually be one of the funnest games to see. I've always thought of that and I think it would be AWESOME!

Posted by AndrewGamerCameron - Wednesday, March 18, 2009 5:49 PM

And by that I mean like trveling around NOT being in just one building.
