Get Smart had a very solid opening weekend performance at this weekend's box office, raking in a respectable $40 million, and winning the weekend solidly. The other big opening film, however, Mike Myers' The Love Guru, got trounced and ended up in fourth place for the weekend, behind Get Smart, The Incredible Hulk, and Kung Fu Panda, making a disappointing $14 million.
The word of mouth on The Love Guru is not very good, and that probably had something to do with its weak performance at the box office. This is not good news for Myers, who hasn't done a film in a long time, and was looking for a new franchise to re-emerge with. On the other hand, Steve Carell is probably happy to put the spectre of Evan Almighty behind him.
