UK Knife Crisis Due To Games, Says Mayor

Posted June 20, 2008 - By Frank Meyer

London Mayor Boris Johnson recently cited “violent videogames” as an influence in the UK’s rising knife epidemic.

In an article written for thelondonpaper railing against London’s “knife crisis,” Johnson wrote, “We must show young people that knives are not cool, and for that we need positive role models. I want to counteract the damaging influences drug-addled celebrities and violent video games and the lure of the life in the gang by providing opportunities.”

Seems the ol’ Mayor has a beef with videogames. And we don’t take to kindly to anti-videogame tirades out here in AMERICA, do we?

In January, 2007, Johnson posted a piece on his website called, “The Writing Is On The Wall – Computer Games Rot The Brain” that asked readers to “garrotte the Game Boy and paralyze the PlayStation,” calling games as “narcotics for children.”

You Limey bastard. That’s it! On behalf of the United States of Friggin’ America, I declare war with Britain! Who’s with me?
