John McCain on Gaming

Posted by Stephen Johnson - Friday, June 13, 2008 7:49 AM

Forget his positions on the war and taxes; we want to know where presidential candidate John McCain stands on videogames! Luckily, Lori Ingham caught up with the Republican candidate and asked him the question on everyone's lips:

With the current controversy over video game and media violence, what is your stance on allowing parents to make the decisions for their children on what they can see and watch?

McCain answered:

"Vidja games? You mean like Mimtendo and the Ataris? Listen, back in my day we didn't have videogames, we had a cup and ball, and we liked it!"

Sorry, not really. Ingram doesn't quote McCain exactly, but posts that he said he "felt that parents should be the ones to decide for their kids on a case by case basis. He then did a weird segue into the evils of child pornography from there."

There you have it, John McCain thinks parents should decide what's best for kids, but games remind him of child porn... does he have your vote?

I can't decide if I want to vote for McCain or vote for anyone in the Green Party which would hurt Obama. Definitely a conundrum.

Posted by NinjaVanish - Friday, June 13, 2008 8:10 AM
no im voting for obama

Posted by cmdluke - Friday, June 13, 2008 8:14 AM
Hilary 08! Hilary 08! Hilary 08!

Haaaaa, my vote goes to the man with the hottest wife, McCain no doubt.

Posted by milhouse91 - Friday, June 13, 2008 8:19 AM
McCain is a doddering old fool who doesn't remember what he says from day to day.

It doesn't matter. They are all evil anyway.
Many promises made before elected. No promises fulfilled after.

Posted by jthomp - Friday, June 13, 2008 8:23 AM
I'll be voting for Obama.

And the whole child porn thing doesn't surprise me, the lot of them seem to think everything goes back to it. Therefore, they can say or do whatever they want as long as they toss in the words "terrorism" or "child porn".

I don't think that McCain even remembers when he was a kid. You figure that it has been a long, long, long, long time ago. Kid porn is sick, how he connected the question about video games and kid porn is something to look into. One has nothing to do with the other, unless he is thinking about people luring kids into porn using video games, then I would have to question his expirience on that... OOOOHHH... I kidd John McCain.. I would have loved to vote another Clinton, but I guess I'm gonna have to vote an Obama in..

Posted by willthegreat - Friday, June 13, 2008 8:29 AM
Pretty much 0 chance I'll be voting for McCain regardless of what he thinks about video games. Obama '08!

Posted by CanadianKris - Friday, June 13, 2008 8:30 AM
Please for the sake of Canada and the world... don't put that old bugger into the Prez seat... PLEASE!!!

Posted by UnJaked - Friday, June 13, 2008 8:31 AM
there all the same anyway the only one with a damn it Ron Paul and what great job the main stream media has done keeping him out of sight. You bastards get what you deserve !!! I guess ignorance is bliss.

Posted by collinE - Friday, June 13, 2008 8:32 AM
That's a fair stance on gaming.

You really can't say anything too bad about gaming or you'll lose the younger vote. Video games are becoming a big part of our culture now.

I think I'm more interested in each candidate's view on the bigger issues. The people won't let either president hurt gaming.

Posted by FreedomRebel - Friday, June 13, 2008 8:33 AM
Yep, I agree with his stance on parents playing a role in what games their children play. Yeah, he has my vote, but I think we're screwed no matter who wins.

I'll be voting for McCain because I don't give a damn about anything but the issues and Obama will be a HORRIBLE president. He is naive, wrong, and the biggest liberal of anyone in the senate. I think many people who vote for McCain will really be voting against obama.

Do you have Obama-mania? The cure is actually looking at the real issues and the candidates proposed solutions.

"I'll be voting for McCain because I don't give a damn about anything but the issues and Obama will be a HORRIBLE president."

Yep, we know someones not feeling it, LOL!!! By the way, you know how I handle McCain?? I just pick on him! Yep, he couldv'e done better in 2000....LOL!! And by the way, is about the cash baby! Is about the cash...LOL!!

I'm sorry I can't vote for Obama because of his experience. He has none.

Its like they say...

If your going to play the game, you got to KNOW how to play the game.

The Politics in the US is a Game and to get things done, you have to be good at politics and the only way you going to be is by experience.

Thats why Hillary waited to run for President in 08 and not 04. She knew she would have been attacked because of her experience.

Posted by TheRufio - Friday, June 13, 2008 8:55 AM
Obama is a tool, and Hilary is a woman. I not voting for either of them. I will vote for Ralph Nader.

Posted by gerrycola - Friday, June 13, 2008 9:03 AM
I was going to vote for Ron Paul, but he dropped out due to lack of media spotlight. He would have been a great president because he has good ideas and he didn't let his patriotism stand in the way of the real issues. Oh well, he's out so I'm voting for Obama.

Posted by spotchlander - Friday, June 13, 2008 9:11 AM
Anyone who thinks McCain will do anything but continue digging the hole Bush started is delusional. Yay for eight more years of war, fear-mongering, recession, and the devaluation of our constitution! Yay!

Cthulhu '08!

Posted by SpotRamer - Friday, June 13, 2008 9:12 AM
I woulda voted for hilary but she dosnt know how to satisfy a man! I would hit it though!

Posted by torino_elite - Friday, June 13, 2008 9:16 AM
man i don't think obamas a good choice. Look i know its all hear say but hear say is probably more true than what these politicians tell us, i hear pretty odd things about obamas background and that he dosent choose to salute our flag. Is that true? i have heard it alot from alot of different sources. If it is i am damn sure not voting in someone who will not salute the flag of the country he is supposed to leading. I hate to say it but just to try to keep him out i'll vote mccain. His stances on video games are pretty minor compared to other problems i am concerned with his ability to deal with.

What he said.

I can only see things getting worst before they get better, who will we liberate next ?

Posted by tlevel5 - Friday, June 13, 2008 9:17 AM
Bottom line McCain will keep taxes lower than what's his name.
Lower taxes = more money for gaming.
So there you have it McCain is the gamers candidate! lol.

Posted by lochack - Friday, June 13, 2008 9:17 AM
Nobama. Mccain for president.

Posted by torino_elite - Friday, June 13, 2008 9:18 AM
Better yet lets vote for chuck norris. He will just scare the problems away. lol

Posted by slimmer - Friday, June 13, 2008 9:18 AM
McCain will be the next president and sch!tt will hit the fan.

Posted by slimmer - Friday, June 13, 2008 9:21 AM
Though it might be in our best interest to make Obama the next president then we can steal middle east oil easier.

Posted by torino_elite - Friday, June 13, 2008 9:28 AM
hey stephen,
everyone else call in sick today? i see you have made the last five threads. Lol maybe you should do another one on the retarded fan boy crap, start another war. That was halarious to watch people flip out and make complete @sses outta themselves, ha ha.

Posted by Spartan_458 - Friday, June 13, 2008 9:31 AM
I wouldn't vote for McCain regardless, but at least he has a good standpoint on games.

Posted by TheRufio - Friday, June 13, 2008 9:32 AM

Posted by elementair - Friday, June 13, 2008 9:39 AM

I have decided!!

McCain equals not taxing corporations to lower prices; which leads to less production and higher prices anyway.

Obama = a racist. I just can't get over the Jeremiah Wright fiasco nor the tirade the white guest pastor spouted recently. You don't go somewhere for 20 years and not have a clue what the deal is.

Posted by BONERJAM - Friday, June 13, 2008 10:17 AM
I like the notion of the Obama campaign but I dont think I'll be voting for him. I think if he were to become President he wouldn't get anything done other than withdraw ours troops, which would be a both good and bad, so that doesnt really accomplish anything. I think McCain can get plenty done, he has political and military experience, Obama has niether.

@Spotramer
God, I hope you are kidding. I think I would rather stab myself in the eye with a rusty fork than even touch her.

Posted by ironcock - Friday, June 13, 2008 10:18 AM
WHAT????????? how STUPID are some of you people???? Gas is at 4 bucks, theres an unnecessary war going on, the economy sucks....and you want ANOTHER republican???? are you people HIGH??? if tom arnold were the democratic nominee id prefer him over any republican. obama isnt a racist, youve never been to a black church. Its about entertainment there. Rev wright said some dumb stuff, but he had appeal with a lot of black people. You are gonna let a candidates former pastor dictate your vote??? Im voting for obama if for nothing else, because i support our troops. I support them enough to want them home. After bush, i will never vote republican. i dont understand ANYONE under 30 wanting mccain.
@whereami....
for shame! Im voting for Obama BECAUSE he has no experience. experience doing what dude?, being old and out of touch?

Posted by ironcock - Friday, June 13, 2008 10:22 AM
i dont dislike mccain, but i want change. Mccain would still use the Karl Rove 9/11 scare crap. if you are a ps3 fanboy and vote mccain, i am embarrassed to call myself one

Posted by P_Reston - Friday, June 13, 2008 10:32 AM
look, he doesnt have my vote.

There.

Posted by Smartguy81 - Friday, June 13, 2008 10:42 AM
@ironcock

Entertainment or not it is highly inappropriate. Some folks consider dog fighting entertainment, does that make it okay? How about child porn? How about public executions? You must not go to church at all, or if you do you are forced. Obama called Wright his "spiritual mentor and advisor" they guy also conducted Obama's wedding. Wright is a racist and he has made the racist remarks outside of his church. Pay attention and don't be such a total tool. The white pastor is no different. You are right, I have never been to a "black" church. In the "white" church that I attend the preacher doesn't blame blacks for all of our problems and work us into a frenzy under the premise "it's somebody else's fault and they are gonna have to pay!"

Posted by Blackstaff01 - Friday, June 13, 2008 10:44 AM
Ron Paul will still be on the ballots. I for one will vote for him, or Bob Barr (Libertarian Candidate) who holds similar RP values.

As for the mainstream - I think the above posts clearly state and make the case that O'bama and McCain are the same. More Taxes (carbon tax), War Forever (If Bush attacks Iran O'bama will have to maintain the war), and pwning the Constitution.

I won't be conned anymore into "voting for the lesser of two evil's". Party Politics be damned.

Posted by postmaster42 - Friday, June 13, 2008 10:45 AM
if you have a problem with both candidates I suggest john mccain because at least theres a good chance he'll barely make a term before keeling over

Posted by torino_elite - Friday, June 13, 2008 10:45 AM
@ ironcock,
its too bad you cant accept other people having opnions on polotics, you are obviuosly way to biased. Can you not see republican or democrate they are all pretty much the same animal? personally i am 25 and am from wyoming. I grew up on a ranch so i generally try to vote republican becuase they tend to care a little more about my interest. I do this even knowing it may pretty much be the same but little better for our agriculture type society where i am from. i vote for what seems to be the better choice for me and my family, as do
