According to those tireless videogame industry financial analysts at the NPD group, May saw gaming sales up 37% overall. That means retail sales of over a $1.12 Billion. But the big news: The PlayStation 3 outsold the 360!
If you're still fighting the console war, here's how hardware sales shook out:
- Wii: Nintendo's console remains on top. It sold 675,100 units.
- The DS comes in second with 452,600 sold.
- The PS3 edged out the 360. 208,700 PlayStations were sold compared with:
- 186,600 360s.
- 112 Sega Genesis systems were sold on eBay.*
NPD analyst Anita Frazier said Grand Theft Auto IV is not translating into hardware sales for either of the big systems, but predicted that Father's Day and Graduations in June might boost hardware sales.
Associated Press: Video game sales up 37 percent to $1.12B in May
