Metal Gear Solid 4 was released last night at midnight and we were at the Los Angeles Launch Event boozing it up with the likes of Kojima producer Ryan Payton and the voice of Solid Snake himself, David Hayter.
Konami was nice enough to provide sushi, liquor, and some cool swag while everyone waited in line for the game. It was a cool event, but mostly we wanted to get our copies of the game and head home to play.
The crowd was primarily composed of bloggers and the Konami folks seemed extremely happy to be launching this game. They walked the lines and tried to get the crowd excited for the game, but most people just wanted midnight to hit.
The funniest part of the evening, to me, was the guy hired by Sierra to hand out demo discs for The Bourne Conspiracy to the line-goers. The demo is not only available for download, but they were handing out 360 versions... at a PS3 game launch. One MGS fan commented that he'd "be happy to take one if he was also giving away 360s."
Throw in some Best Buy vs. GameStop rivalry and it was a pretty great environment. Best Buy had a signing table, but GameStop had the Limited Edition. The line at Best Buy was definitely longer, but GameStop had a good showing. I didn't stay much past midnight because I needed to head home and play the game.
Did you go to a midnight launch?
