Jack Thompson Walks Out of Own Hearing

Posted by Ty Colfax - Wednesday, June 04, 2008 3:25 PM

Well, Ole Jackie T. walked out of his disbarment hearing today before the proceedings were even finished. Subsequently, the presiding Judge Tunis recommended an "enhanced disbarment." We're not exactly sure what the "enhanced" part adds to the punishment, but we're thinking it involves him turning in his pants AND sock garters.

The best part is Thompson's epic statement to the courtroom where he called Judge Tunis "incompetent and arrogant" and threatened to have her removed from office "in the days and weeks ahead."

"I am “guilty” of being right and ahead of the curve when it came to Howard Stern and as to Grand Theft Auto. Because I took on Bar complainant, Al Cardenas, the Howard Stern Show is off terrestrial radio and his influence diminished."

Right. It had nothing to do with the fact that Sirius offered him $500 million to go off terrestrial radio.

He goes on: "Because I took on this cop-killing, woman-bashing video game, the Presidential race is now addressing the issue and this particular video game… Try to get me disbarred. Go ahead, do your worst, Referee Tunis. I will continue to do my best."

If he is disbarred, he'll be prevented from applying to practice law for 10 years anywhere in the U.S.

Kotaku has the full 4500-word statement Thompson made at the hearing earlier this morning. If you want to feel sick and regret living, you should check it out.

I think it means he has to turn over his plasmids.

Enhanced disbardment = He won't be allowed to practice law for the rest of his life (hoping this is true)*crosses fingers*

I figure in the case of Wacky Jacky, he really doesn't have long to live since everyone's out for his blood.

Posted by grimreap - Wednesday, June 04, 2008 3:53 PM
problem is this guy actually believes his own BS... dont worry... there will be someone else waiting to try to grab headlines and make a name for themselves once he is gone... there always is... hopefully the next one will be as stupid and incompetent as good old jack...

Well, it looks like Jack can take the recently created position of "Culture War Analyst" over at Faux News.

sounds liek a scientologist. tell anon to man the harpoons.

Posted by Oinkness - Wednesday, June 04, 2008 6:04 PM
You guys are biased because you're gamers. He was pursuing a good cause and nobody would listen because it is an unpopular movement. Kids can walk into stores and buy games that are rated M. Then again, they can also get in to R rated movies.

What Jackson didn't realize is that it is the FCC's job to dish out the punishment to these people, not his.

I feel bad for Thompson's family.

What an unending parade of embarrassment...

Posted by chriseastsidedc - Wednesday, June 04, 2008 6:38 PM
@ MrSword1
He came really close to it. in the link it shows the full statement and he started quoting the bible about "if the world hate u, then they hate me too."

@ Oinkness
And yea i agree, his cause it noble and very good to say the least. we, the gamers, nor the gaming industry really want M rated games in the hands and children that are easily influenced by violence. But we all can agree that he goes about it completely the wrong way, and instead of just tryin to make sure the game isnt sold to kids, he tries to get the games banned from stores, which would punish the adult gamers as well.

What a happy and uplifting story! This would've been hilarious if it coincided with the release of GTA IV.

It just goes to show you. All of these anit-gaming fascists have far too much pride and have elevated themselves to self-appointed masters of morality. They think all their arrogance is justified and believe themselves media gatekeepers. Come on now! back-talking a judge! 'Ol Jack's so finished!

Posted by yoshiarecool - Wednesday, June 04, 2008 7:23 PM
God, how much longer before we can shut his legal mouth up

Posted by cbull - Wednesday, June 04, 2008 9:57 PM
Enhanced disbarment. Well if it happens Jack will not be able to practice law for twenty years. However, I am sure some crackpot televangelist or right wing "think" tank will give him a sounding board.

Posted by Nintendood_Prime - Wednesday, June 04, 2008 10:27 PM
He had it comin. what with the lying, the false information, the steryotypes, i could go on.

His kids probobly get beat up at school. I kinda feel sorry for them. someone shoudl take them in, show them the light!

Posted by mercisan - Wednesday, June 04, 2008 11:03 PM
@blakseed
I know what you mean.

Posted by bonzaiboy - Wednesday, June 04, 2008 11:07 PM
Regular disbarment would allow the attorney to reapply for admission to the Bar after 5 years. The "enhanced" disbarment extends it to 10 years. I recommend a super-enhanced disbarment...

Posted by mercisan - Thursday, June 05, 2008 12:23 AM
Everyone ready?

FINISH HIM!

Posted by unexplainedbacon - Thursday, June 05, 2008 12:28 AM
You guys are way off the mark...

He doesn't NEED to be an attorney anymore--- he can make lots of money as a babbling talking head and book author.

He's not insane, he knows he doesn't need the grind of his law career anymore--- being a talking head posing as an activist is far more lucrative. Just ask Ann Coulter.

Posted by audallas84 - Thursday, June 05, 2008 12:42 AM
Don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out jack.

Posted by Neoshine - Thursday, June 05, 2008 3:41 AM
@ Oinkness

Please don't speak. Seriously. If you knew about majority of the laws placed on M rated games, you seriously wouldn't have said that. You are required to be ATLEAST 17 years of age or have a parent/guardian present to purchase it. One of my good friends worked at Gamestop was fired because they accused him of selling an M rated game to a minor. It's a serious offense.

Thompson is certainly off his rocker, his cause may have been noble at one time, but if anyone actually spent the time to read that garbage that managed to fall out of his mouth, I'm shocked he actually knows 4500 words...

Posted by d_dirdy - Thursday, June 05, 2008 5:00 AM
yay, the jackass is gone!

"TAGS: Lowlife, Other People's Misfortune, Prostate Health"

EPIC LAWL!!!!!

Posted by capthavic - Thursday, June 05, 2008 6:21 AM
I hope that it means that he'll be disbarred from humanity.

@Neoshine

Yeah his intentions might have been noble at first but he is clearly off his rocker.

@TKnHappyNess

Why? He's no threat to gamers. Any valid arguments he might have (are there any?) are undone by his insane rants and disrespect for the courts.

Posted by Tasomo - Thursday, June 05, 2008 7:23 AM
I don't think he'll be showing up with book deals and TV positions. He has never presented a valid case on television appearances and you know your future career as a bobblehead on TV is over when the very anchormen you're supposed to know more than constantly call you out for your BS.

Even FOX News won't touch this guy. The most damage he'll be able to do (ESPECIALLY after being disbarred for 10 years) is running a blog.

His cause was never noble, nor was the man. He wanted what he believed to be fact and it wasn't. He was never out to protect children, he was out to make videogames a scapegoat because he personally did not like them.

Imo G4 should put up a website called like Jackthompsongotowned.com.

Hopefully he can find some peace and quiet. Lets just finish this and move on.

The Biggest D-Bag in the state of Florida this side of a Bush. But giving him any voice positive or negative still validates his points. Just stop writing about his lunatic ramblings. lets hope he enjoys the rest of his time working at Wal-Mart where he belongs.

Well in the 50's comics got the SAME TREATMENT as games do now, look what happened to them. A period of pandering to the legal people, then the growth into a medium accepted by most as being for anyone . Now as for the JACK@$$ Thompson, BYEBYE!!!!!!(Sorry needed to let the kid in me out!)
