'Home' is Coming in 2008... In Beta Form

Sony's PlayStation Home, the chat-room/dollhouse/multiplayer-lobby/MMO for the PS3, is coming in 2008, but it will be rolled out in open beta form.

Susan Panico, senior director of PlayStation Network, said that Home's "rollout will be similar to Gmail," describing what will launch this year as an "open, working beta."

Question for PS3-users: Are you looking forward to going Home? Or are you more like meh?

I'm looking forward to trying it out. Worst case scenario is that I don't like it, and I go back to enjoying it for the games and blu-ray movies. Best case scenario is that I love it.

Does anyone one REALLY care about Home? Now the hole Home thing just irritates me because every article about it pertains to its delay / "longest frickin ever" beta period. If this is supposedly going to be a killer ap for the PS3, put up or shut up. Don't just delay it for 2 years or something like that.

Yeah they did fix it my launch system has never even broke and only one of my around 30 people i know from school have had a rrod in the past year when me and one other kid i know that both have ps3's broke this year.

Maybe there will be an external USB hardive at some point. It just seem a little suspect that you only have so much space on the system and that's it... or are there still memory cards that you can get?

no...no....really?
you are this ardent and passionate about some uninspired second life rip off. THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT IT IS!!!! Frankly there is nothing interesting about a virtual reality that tries to imitate reality. The goal of games and such is to take one out of reality to do something awesome that would be impossible (or illegal) to pull of in real life. You have to be frickin developing this Home if your selling it THIS much and if you are, you're doing a pretty crumby job because this "masterpiece" is becoming the Duke Nukem of the PS3.

You know, i was really looking forward to Home for the longest time. But, it has been a long time since the announcement of it with a couple delays here and there and the anticipation has worn off. I will enjoy seeing what it is like when it does come out, but as far as being overly excited about it I will not. My answer is basically a meh, with an off note of slight enthusiasm.

I lost interest along the way. Just give me the basics (xmb, soundtracks, universal chat, etc.) and waste time with empty promises later. Why wasn't this development happening five years ago? Didn't they realize the PS3 would need this stuff before it launched?

What's really the difference if I come here or PlayStation Home for news?

I see PlayStation Home as 3D representations of everything 2D they offer on the PlayStation Network. In other words a 3D internet is how I see things.

luckily I have been in the beta since the beginning and have seen the progress that it has made and its finally getting somewhere. After a couple of redo's and major changes to its looks, I can see exactly where its going and it will be a very unique interactive game launching, product placement and sales utility. But one thing that people dont seem to get... ITS NOT A GAME! Its more like a 3D interactive chat room where you can direct purchase items, launch into games and hang with your friends and gaming buds. Now if Sony could just imitate my friends and I all sitting around smoking doobs and drinking beer while playing online, only then will it be a for-sure hit especially since its free. And for all the other morons that complain about this constantly... HOME has NOTHING to do with in-game XMB... geez

After all of this time, why is Sony release this as an open beta. Wait, I know so that they won't have to except complete responsibility for problems that people are going to have with Home. They'll just say, well it's a beta, those things are being worked on. (Even though it's been in closed beta for over a year.)

This is so typical of Sony. I own a PS3, but I hate Sony's Lying butts.

Speaking of microsoft, did you guys see how people arn't finding what they want on XBL. Xbots gloat all the time about XBL but it looks like it's starting to loose it's touch. So much for the service charge ($50). Some service. PSN gives you everything you want for free.

Dont bring up game counts when u know damn well PS3 has more decent exclusives coming out this year alone than 360 has had to date. I love gears but damn, all any1 talks about is gears.

Doesnt it say "Question for PS3 users" meaning PS3 owners not friggin xbots that wanna bash stuff. Home is a hit or miss. And by chance its a miss, idc, I dont pay for it. Home seems like a good idea but the hype is dieing out, Sony needs to get it out soon, which they seem to be.

In all honesty, im nothing short of stoked for HOME. From what ive heard it opens all kinds of doors the PSN nor XBL offer. I.E. a real life venue, just think of walking around in a E3 setting seeing booths and playing demos and watching press conferences. Itll be like your actually there almost. To me, that sound awesome.

To PS3 owners fans: I wonder what xbots are going to come up with to complain about once home is actually out and MGS4 is out. I think with the releases of those 2 items it pretty much sums up their complaints, no?

I think your all missing the point. HOME is more than just a place to hang out...it's also the place where PS3 acheivments will be kept...if I'm not mistaken...Not only that but by haveing sponsored spaces you will be able to have a sudo connection to your content provider. You could go to Insomniac's sponsored space and check up on Resistance2. Konami's space to see about the MGS series. Square for FF. If Movie houses get involved they can cut out Evil Walmart and sell their content to the consumer directly. This would be Big for small Movie houses on the come-up. There is also opportunity for designers and clothing company to sell virtual version of their clothes to the consumer....the posibilities are trully great!!

To the person who complained about HDD space. Go to newegg. Buy a laptop HDD. Install into ps3. Profit. And btw you just bought 3 times the amount of space that you could buy for the 360 because sony has open HDD.

And about PS3 owners not posting like every 5 minutes. Thing is, PS3 owners have jobs, families, sports, meaning they are above the age of 12. On the other hand, Xbox has 12 year olds that have nothing better to do than play video games once they get home from school. No job, no bills, no nuthn. Worry free. Plus its not the kids own money(generally) so they dont look at the monetary benefits of a PS3. The kids just buy what they hear about from the media(Mainly M$ bias). But hey, the less 12 yr olds calling me the "N bomb" the better. I dont need that crap on PSN. Hope PSN remains a clean circuit.

Its only trolling if its false, I spoke the truth. Im sorry I left u and the other 10% of XBL players that arnt 12-14 yr olds out. Btw, Im just like u; 17, play football, work etc. I wasnt claiming all XBL players are 12. Just a majority are or atleast act, talk, and play like a imature 12yr old.

And if the 12 yr olds dont do it, the foreigners do. I played Halo 3 online yesterday with a friend as "guest" and man, these 2 frenchies were making me laugh. They were arguing and yelling at me and I couldnt understand them, and I was on their team(we won). But only because I had 19 kills and my friend had 24. The other 2 got a record high combined total of 7, WOOT!
