Follow-Up: 'Fallout 3' Art + Terrorism

Posted by Stephen Johnson - Friday, May 30, 2008 9:43 AM

Hey, The Mainstream Media, you should read G4's website!

Yesterday, we reported on the above image, concept art from Fallout 3, and the fact that US-based terrorist watch group SITE said it's a "computer generated image, showing how Washington D.C. would look after a nuclear attack... posted on a radical chat site."

Today, the story was picked up by This is London, and currently resides on the front page of TheDrudgeReport.

This is London says "The computer-generated image below was posted on an Islamic extremists' website yesterday."

Way to check your facts, fellas!

Bethesda's Fallout 3, billed as “America’s first choice in post-nuclear simulation," comes out this fall for the PS3, 360 and PC. We wonder if Bethesda is secretly very happy at the "you can't pay for this" style of publicity.

So we have, what, a day or two before the Bush administration picks this up and runs it on a backdrop terror alert? Once more emboldening the think-for-me percentage of the country to surge again and willingly vote more of our rights off the island? Everyone go post these 'news' outlets sites comment-crazy and let them know how retahded they are. Nicely, of course. No trolling the UK websites, lmao.

I put a very polite "hey this is from a videogame" comment up and they won't post it. Yet the comment section is filled with people talking about banning Islam. I'll say it again...

Wilco. Tango. Foxtrot?

Yeah I tried the same earlier. But I also said that fact-checking might be a good idea before reporting. I doubt it'll ever show up

I saw this on Drudge this morning and noticed they didn't mention anything about this being from Fallout 3.

i have a question. do we actualy know if this WAS posted on an islamic extreemist site? cuz it's very possible that it was.

and how would you go about fact checking an image if you didn't know where it came from?

hey guys. every time an islamic extreemist posts a picture on one of their websites we better check g4.

come on guys grow up. go tell them it's from fallout 3.

Posted by Slaytanic40oz - Friday, May 30, 2008 11:48 AM
people did. theres even a comment they allowed to be posted that says so. the story however remains unchanged.

Posted by Carpeljet - Friday, May 30, 2008 11:49 AM
now there is an update on the front page of the drudge report. reporting the fact that it is from fallout 3 so you can all stop crapping your pants.

Posted by Carpeljet - Friday, May 30, 2008 11:51 AM

Oh God, my heinous plan has been revealed at long last. For years I have been posing as a mild mannered security guard in Jackson TN. little did people know however that while I sat playing video games I was plotting the downfall of all western civilization, little caring for the fact that I lived there, Oh I have to run....Have to Hide....Have to carry clean underwear....the hamsters....the HAMSTERS ARE EVERYWHERE!!!!!

GIVE ME A tiny Break. I think we've officially hit the point of "Paranoid" when a still image from a video game is proof of terrorist propaganda. I'm southern, I'm Republican and I'm a gamer and I'm sick of all that cloak and dagger bull in the media. When will they leave gamers alone? Thank God for G4. This would make a great soapbox segment Adam.
