Over the next month, Blockbuster will launch a test pilot of in-store kiosks that will allow consumers to download movies onto portable devices within two minutes.
Blockbuster Chairman and CEO James Keyes unveiled the news yesterday in his first annual shareholder meeting, noting that the company is still in negotiations with studios about content deals for the kiosk trial.
So until they get all the details worked out, Blockbuster will have limited movies to offer in the trial. But there’s much more to come, he says, as they try to get all the major studios on board.
Keyes also said that he could see a monthly subscription fee of $10 along with a free device give-away down the line, and added that games would be "a wonderful addition" to the kiosk service in the future as well.
