Twitter Downtime Finally Explained

Posted May 23, 2008 - By Patrick Roche-Sowa

For those of you that use Twitter, you know it's been fairly spotty for the past few weeks. It also seemed like the higher-ups at Twitter used those outages to hide in their ivory towers and laugh at all you internet peons. But finally, some word has come from the powers that be about why the site has been having such problems. Basically it boils down to the fact that Twitter has grown on its own and become something more than what it was planned to be. The short explination is that people using Twitter as a messaging system has stressed the original framework, and the staff has been doing hap-hazard spot fixes to help such use along. This all lead to a virtual mess, causing site down time and slow-down.

But guess what, it's not going to stop anytime soon. Twitter-ers can expect less frequent, but still noticable hickups while the staff tries to rebuild the structure from the ground up, but at least it will come out better in the end. Right? RIGHT?!?!?!
