ACTIVISION UNVEILS GUITAR HERO® WORLD TOUR – THE DEFINITIVE ROCK & ROLL MUSIC VIDEOGAMING EXPERIENCE

New State of the Art Wireless Instruments

Innovative Music Studio Lets Players Compose, Record, Edit and Share Music

Biggest Selection of On-Disc Music with All Master Tracks

Robust New Eight-Player “Battle of the Bands” Mode

First Game Ever in the Guitar Hero® Franchise to Allow In-Game Downloadable Content on Wii

Santa Monica, CA – May 22, 2008 – When the house lights go down this fall, a new generation of axe shredders, drummers and fearless frontmen will come together and rock with Activision, Inc.’s (Nasdaq: ATVI) Guitar Hero® World Tour.  The latest installment from the #1 best-selling video game franchise of 2007, Guitar Hero World Tour will transform music gaming by marrying Guitar Hero’s® exhilarating guitar gameplay, with a cooperative band experience that combines the most advanced wireless instruments with revolutionary new online and offline gameplay modes.  The game will feature a slick newly redesigned guitar, a genuine electronic drum kit and a microphone, as well as an innovative Music Studio music creator that lets players compose, record, edit and share their own rock and roll anthems, along with online Band Career and 8-player “Battle of the Bands.”

Delivering the largest on-disc set list in a music-rhythm game to-date, Guitar Hero World Tour is comprised entirely of master recordings from some of the greatest classic and modern rock bands of all-time including Van Halen, Linkin Park, The Eagles, Sublime and many more.  Additionally, the game will offer significantly more localized downloadable music than ever before on all of the next-generation consoles.  Budding rock stars will also be given creative license to fully customize everything from their characters’ appearance and instruments to their band’s logo and album covers.

In addition to a newly designed more responsive guitar controller and microphone, Guitar Hero World Tour will deliver the most realistic drum experience ever in a video game with an authentic electronic drum kit.  Featuring three drum pads, two raised cymbals and a bass kick pedal, the drum controller combines larger and quieter, velocity-sensitive drum heads with soft rubber construction to deliver authentic bounce back and is easy to set up, move, break down and store.

“Guitar Hero has set the standard for music-based gaming and with Guitar Hero World Tour and the game’s groundbreaking Music Studio, we are once again delivering unprecedented innovation that has the potential to revolutionize consumer generated music, much in the same way that video sharing hubs have driven user generated video,” said Dusty Welch, Head of Publishing for RedOctane.  “With the introduction of our advanced high-quality new wireless instruments, in-depth customization options and advanced online functionality, the game enables music fans and gamers globally to share in the most social and expressive music experience ever.”

Guitar Hero World Tour delivers more ways to play than ever before.  Virtual musicians can live out their rock and roll fantasies by playing either a single instrument, or any combination of instruments, in addition to the full band experience.  In addition to all of the online gameplay modes from Guitar Hero® III: Legends of Rock, Guitar Hero World Tour introduces Battle of the Bands mode which allows eight players to join online and challenge each other band-to-band to determine who is the best of the best.  In the Band modes, up to four players can jam together, online or off, as they progress through the game, and in single-player Career Mode, players can jam on any of the instruments in branching venue progression enabling them to rock out in the order of their choice.

The game’s innovative new Music Studio lets players express their musical creativity by giving them access to a full compliment of tools to create digital music from scratch, utilizing all of the instruments, and then play their compositions in the game.  Music creators will also be able to share their recordings with their friends online through GHTunes™ where other gamers can download their unique compositions and play them.

Guitar Hero World Tour is being developed by Neversoft Entertainment for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system.  The Wii™ version is being developed by Vicarious Visions.  The PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system version is being developed by Budcat.  The game is not yet rated by the ESRB.

It still is a cheap Rock Band knock off, you silly goose.

Posted by DamienHell - Thursday, May 22, 2008 9:04 AM
Problem is I own rockband, I'm not buying a whole new instrument set

Posted by liversnot - Thursday, May 22, 2008 9:39 AM
right on DamienHell, not buying another one, and to add to it, if rock band keeps cranking out awesome dlc i have no reason to.

Posted by neonchez - Thursday, May 22, 2008 9:39 AM
well, i'll have to wait for the set list before i decide to go back to gh.

Posted by kid_vic - Thursday, May 22, 2008 9:48 AM

This is starting to sound really awesome but I'm not spending the money after already spent it on rock band.

Posted by cxhxexexsxe - Thursday, May 22, 2008 9:56 AM
@kid_vic: *sigh* an uneducated answer, first of all konami started it all, second Rock band didn't really copy because there are a lot of the same developers working on it and rock band is way better anyways

and for the love of god stop saying "da" and "dan" you sound like a 6th grade dropout

Posted by cxhxexexsxe - Thursday, May 22, 2008 9:57 AM
and i personally think that it won't make as much money as GH3 unless it is compatible with the rock band instruments, because i know i'm not buying a whole new set of instruments

Posted by IAMTHELAW - Thursday, May 22, 2008 10:16 AM
PANAMA!!!

Posted by Tmidiman - Thursday, May 22, 2008 10:20 AM
As a musician this sounds appealing, but the guys at Neversoft are not good music game programmers so I'll wait till I can try ity before I get too excited.

If it plays as badly as GH3 I'll pass.

It looks cool, but I'm in that crowd of people that won't buy MORE peripherals because companies choose to profit with proprietary equipment. If it were compatible with what I have, then yeah.

ALSO: G4, listen up. "Slavering" isn't a word. It's salivating, or slobbering. This is the second news report in three days with a word that doesn't exist and only brings back thoughts of 1800's America.

Posted by sjohnson - Thursday, May 22, 2008 10:57 AM
"Slavering" is too a word. I means "To Drool." It's archaic, sure, but I like it.

I gotta say this game is starting to look pretty freaking sweet, i just hope that the price tag doesnt make me have to pull another 100$ bill out of my ass, lol.

I have gh3 for the wii and i was going to buy Rock band when it came out but since Rock Band does not support gh3 guitars on wii. I'll wil wait for gh4.

YES! SUBLIME!

Posted by dawimp523 - Thursday, May 22, 2008 12:07 PM
Wait, the new Guitar Hero game will let you have DLC on the Wii, but the Wii version of Rock Band won't let you download stuff? Weird. I was wanting to buy a PS3 & Rock Band on the PS3, but now I think I'll get this on the Wii & keep using my Wii guitar! I don't want to get the bundle though. As much as I want an extra guitar, drums, & a mic in 1 package, I'd rather pick which instrument I'd like the most & let my friends form the rest of the band. They better have individual instruments & the individual game available when it launches, & not make us wait for months!

This thing is stupid. You can make your own music now on fake instruments? At this point you really should just buy a damn instrument and play it rather then make music on a video game controller. And as for buying ANOTHER $170 package full of fake instruments? I'll pass. As consumer spending gets tighter and tighter this year I'm betting a good number of others will pass too. If they are expecting a Rock Band or even Guitar Hero style windfall they are deluding themselves.

The wii can have downloadable content. :)
Can't wait for this game.

Customizable characters and gear? Custom song creation? It's finally happened, Neversoft is ruining Guitar Hero just as it ruined the Tony Hawk series. Sure, all of these new improvements will be nice, but this will probably be all the change the Guitar Hero series will ever see until it crumbles in a pit of epic fail a la Tony Hawk's Proving Ground.

to: cxhxexexsxe,
oooomg, wen did i eva ask u for ur opinion?! lets jus say i was wrong, it was an opinion, no need to be so hostile. an yes, i kno konami were the originators of the whole music game thing. DEY had drum mania an guitar freaks an DAT dj game. u didnt hear me say that guitar hero had DA original concept did ya? i'm jus saying DEY borrowed the concept from 'em. rock band's guitar is wack, dats all, an wit a name like cheese an all DOSE x's, i bet ur asian, not being racist, jus a stereotype. an since ur gessing i'm a "6th grade dropout", im also gessing u must be older DAN a 6th grader, dats sad dat ur baggin on me. ur nosy, get offa my level, payce!

Posted by urface789 - Thursday, May 22, 2008 8:12 PM
i already have the les paul gh3 controller, and rock band mic and drums. the mic for rock band will definitely work for this game (unless thweres some sort of catch) but i dont really use vocals so i dont care. all that means is that i need to buy the new drums and of course the game. the drums look so much better than rock bands so ill spend the money to get ONE extra peripheral. also, people tend to be creative, and i will be able to download probably one good hhome made version for a whole lot of songs i like. cant wait for this game. the only thing it really knocks off of rock band is the extra instruments, and so far they seem better than rb's so w.e.

Neversoft actually did a great job on GHIII (Sold more than any other Guitar Hero game, that's for sure - more than a billion dollars worth). So what are you people complaining about that Neversoft is going to ruin the franchise? Been doing a heck of a job ruining it so far.

Also, whoever was idiotic enough to predict that ANY Guitar Hero game is going to sell poorly at this point must have had a lobotomy or something.

And finally, I love how people get offended at buy two sets of fake instruments - as if ONE set of fake instruments is cool, but TWO make it sound like you're a loser who plays with plastic toys too much. News flash: you're a loser even if you own ONE set of fake instruments, so admit it already and go on.

Run to a music store and buy an actual guitar, instead of sitting here and complaining how "Oh boo hoo they won't make a realistic guitar game." Guess what? THEY ALREADY DID, IT'S CALLED REAL GUITAR.

i agree with Apsalus07
