Oscar Pistorius, a world-class South African sprinter on two prosthetic legs, has been cleared to attempt to qualify for the Olympics. It may become a moot point as his best time is a full second (which is huge) off the qualifying time for Beijing.
The decision is very specific so as to not set a dangerous precedent for other cyborgs to take advantage of in the future. Estimations put Pistorius' energy usage at only 25% of other sprinters as his prosthetics are spring-loaded.
As with many Olympic athletes, Pistorius has a sponsor in Cyberdyne Systems, and if he can't make it to the Beijing Olympics, he's said he will go to work for the company on some new Skynet T-800 project. We hope that works out well for everyone.
