In an interview with Eurogamer, World of Warcraft producer J. Allen Brack stated that WoW would "probably... need a graphical update from the ground up at some point."
Wrath of the Lich King will include some optional effects for players with high-end PCs, but they are looking to a complete overhaul for the next expansion after Lich King.
Also, next expansion confirmed?
One of the reasons WoW is so successful is that almost any decently equipped computer can run the game. Blizzard's art style makes this work, but it'll be interesting to see if players leave if the game becomes more intensive to run.
Eurogamer: WOW will "probably" get graphical reboot

But at the same time Blizzard will not want to hurt alot of players/paying customers. They will still keep players happy but will make it better for the ones that do go for the Hot PC's running new tech.
With that being sadly any computer purchased in the past year up to when this will be done will be able to handle anything that blizz decides to do.
and if you are a custom PC guy well why are you bitching you up grade every 90 days any ways.
I can only hope that if they update the graphics, it's not something that I won't be able to turn down if my PC can't handle 'the best' in graphics.
WoW is going to need a graphical update to keep up with newer games, to keep older players, and possibly bring in newer players.
That's a lovely thought, but no... it doesn't.
It certainly doesn't need a graphical update to do this.
Conan looks like it'll have a huge launch, but it won't touch WoW's numbers.
Lich King will boost WoW back up to whatever it loses and probably more.
i paid $40 for diablo 2 back in the day. and they still support the game buy keeping the servers up. why can't all games be like this? I know they do this on going "never ending game" always adding stuff to the game but thats what the expansion packs are for that you pay $40 at the store for.
Besides, the minumum specs are already rock bottom anyway
800 MHz processor
GeForce 2 or above
512 Mb of RAM
I've seen ultra portable laptops with better stuff than this
(I could care less, this 6 yo pc never could run WOW anyways)
Yes, I understand you.
However, WoW will not be top dog forever. Gradually, people will seek other games.
Blizzard will lose older players who're sick of Chuck Norris jokes & cartoony visuals.
Huxley, Warhammer, & others will take their toll on the marketshare.
It might. A lot of WoW's audience are gamers that have never played an MMO before. They are casual gamers.
Blizzard is also really, really good at staying top dog in a genre they get into.
StarCraft/WC3 are still the top RTS games.
Diablo 2 is still to top isometric RPG.
I'm sorry to tell you this but I have quite a life, and I'm sure not all people who play WoW are "lonely scumbags" because saying all is a hyperbole, and as my 7th grade English teacher taught me, hyperboles are the biggest mistake you can make in an essay.
I have a job that I go to nearly everyday, and I have friends I spend copious amounts of time with, plus in a matter of the last week I've invested maybe 30 hours into WoW.
