'Ninja Gaiden II' to be Itagaki's Last One

Posted by Brian Leahy - Wednesday, May 14, 2008 1:55 PM

Ninja Gaiden II releases in a few weeks, but it could be the last time you take up the sword of Ryu Hayabusa. According to comments made by creator, Tomonobu Itagaki, this game could be the final one in the Ninja Gaiden franchise.

"Personally I think we were able to create the definitive 3D game in this series so I'm not planning on making any other games in the series," said Itagaki. "So I hope fans treat this as a swan song for the franchise."

We admire his desire to move onto something new, but predict that if his next game isn't well received he'll be running right back to Ryu with open arms.

Destructoid: Ryu goes into retirement: No more Ninja Gaiden, says Itagaki

Just a sales gimic. Just like all these crazy Japenese game makers, they say they are done when they come back over and over and over again.

If Ninja Gaiden 2 is as awesome as the first tone, I'm sure the money he'll be offered will lure him back.

He makes it sound like it was the best series of games of all time. When there has been like... one done. And they just threw a few expansions on it.

I've never played it. But either way, I'm good event hough I haven't

Make with the Dead or Alive already! Next-gen Ninja Gaiden just isn't what I'd been dreaming of since playing the NES carts in grade school. They're great action titles, but the settings, enemies, and story are lame. Let Itagaki get back to fighting games and volleyball- and let's hope he remembers his promise during the Dreamcast era to "develop for the most powerful system available" and puts DOA5 and DOAX3 out on the PS3...

I have a feeling there will still be Ninja Gaiden games that will crop up on the next-next generation consoles.
