Always ones to give fans a raw, wart-and-all inside look at their operation (see the 2004 flick Some Kind Of Monster – yikes!), heavy metal vets Metallica have launched a website to offer fans exclusive content and teasers of new songs.
A preview clip available on the newly launched Mission: Metallica site shows the band recording and horsing around in the studio. Fans who sign up will be eligible to "win backstage passes to every show this summer," among other special offers.
Mission: Metallica also offers a "platinum" level, allowing fans to a copy of the new album delivered on street date, weekly "fly on the wall" video clips, contests to travel to shows and/or Metallica's San Francisco compound, live show downloads, ringtones and more.
Best of all, at the moment, there is no price tag for the site
Metallica will be on the road this summer in advance of the as-yet-untitled album, due out in September.
It’s nice to see the guys embracing technology instead of fighting it (see 2000’s Napster battle).
