'Super High Me' Opens Big

Posted by Patrick Roche-Sowa - Friday, May 09, 2008 2:42 PM

Doug Benson, regular guest on Attack of the Show and stand-up comedian, recently released a documentary called Super High Me onto the 420 friendly public. Something of a parody to Supersize Me, Doug spent 30 days smoking lots and lots of pot to see what happens when you "over do it".

Since this was a smaller, independent film with little to no advertising budget, the innovators over at B-Side Entertainment decided to approach distribution of the film differently. When the movie opened in smaller, art house theaters all over the country, B-Side also launched the "Roll Your Own Screening" project. If you had a projector, a DVD player, and a few friends you could order a copy of the movie on DVD early and host a screening at your house, apartment, or shady back alley. Thanks to this, Super High Me screened in 1,076 different locations on April 20th, surpassing the 868 theaters that Fahrenheit 911 opened in. Now yes, these weren't all theaters, so technically no records were broken, but coming from a film with zero marketing expense and no media buys at all, this grassroots campaign appears to be a huge success.

Even better, there's still time to host your own screening, and now all you need is a widescreen HDTV. Find out how after the bump.

Extended until May 20th, the Roll Your Own screening program is now allowing anyone with a projector OR a widescreen HDTV to host a screening of their own. I just set up my own, and it's really easy. Just schedule the date, time, location, and if you want your screening to be public or private. Then just pay $2.95 for the DVD, plus shipping. Yes I'm serious, that's it, and it technically doesn't release on DVD until next month! Then just make sure you schedule shipping so that it arrives before your scheduled screening, and you're off.

This is a great way to promote an independent film, and TheFeed hopes the movie does well. Go to SuperHighMeMovie.com so set up an account and roll your own.

You don't need a projector or a widescreen hdtv, just a regular tv and dvd player. Thats how we did ours on April 20th.

This movie is awesome. I support the idea of medical and pretty much any legal marijuana. But I also like the fact that California actually sticks up to its constitutional rights and dis obeys the the Fed. Seriously if more poeple stood up for their state rights like they show on super highme then the U.S would be a better place.

Pot should be legal. It's been used sense biblical times and there is still no record of anyone dying from it. People get cancer from ciggs and just plainly get stupid from alcohol. The problem we have here is that people aren't FORCED to vote. Especially about issues like this.

Cool, someone with publishing power tried to proliferate weed. Will things change? Only with your obligation...meaning.no.
