Rumor: 'BioShock' Team Working on new 'X-COM'?

Posted by Brian Leahy - Monday, May 05, 2008 12:15 PM

What's next for BioShock creator Ken Levine? According to some snazzy web rumors it could be a new X-COM game. The classic top-down strategy franchise is probably due for some next-gen treatment.

Fallout is already going next-gen from Bethesda and it'd be great to have a new X-COM from Ken Levine. The rumor originally comes from the resume of Irrational Games' lawyer, which listed an X-COM title in the credits of the company.

The Official Xbox Magazine resurfaced this rumor in their latest issue, but offered no new information.

Have you played X-COM? Would you play an next-gen sequel? We would love to kick some more alien ass!

I loved X COM and the lobster men were a pain in the behind. Hope they keep the strategy elements because that is what made the franchise so good

I've been waiting soo long for a next-gen x-com.

that's a picture from "terror from the deep" right? That's totally a perfect fit for bioshock. oh, man.

For the love of god I hope this is one rumor that rings true. X-Com: UFO Defence was one of the best games I've ever played. A new game would be great but honestly I would be perfectly happy with a Remake of UFO Defence or Terror from the Deep, with just better graphics. Apoc limited the scope of the game down too much so i think it would be tougher to make a full game from that point in the story unless its an FPS which if it is, we must pray it doesnt turn out like X-Com: Enforcer.

After seeing the UFO games claim to be spiritual follow ups to X-Com fall flat on thier face I will wait for reviews on this if it ever comes out.

I still go back and play the original every once in awhile. Frackin' China always gives in to the aliens.

ahh, just downloaded X-COM: TFTD. I don't think I've beaten it before. I beat UFO Defense again sometime last year, but the sequel is so hard.

HEY FELLAS. NOT RELATED. IS BIOSHOCK COMING TO THE PS3 OR NOT? IS IT JUST RUMOR OR TRUTH?

Posted by collinE - Monday, May 5, 2008 2:44 PM

still rumor. probably not a true one either. I think they're going to focus more on bioshock 2 and bringing that to the PS3

thanks.

First news about possible a Descent next-gen iteration, and now this...much more and I'll have to change my pants!

X-COM was and still is awesome...haven't played it for quite a while though. This news might just get me to boot up my old DOS machine once more...

I absolutely love X-Com. I just hope they don't butcher it and go first/third person. Let's keep it simple :D

i have owned both original x-com games and loved them. They should keep the original game play but make it next gen graphics. maybe add more aliens, weapons, upgrades ... etc. multiplayer?

I loved the original X-Com, and terror from the deep wasn't bad either, but everything after that wasn't that great. I'd love a new game!
