Nine Inch Nails Give Fans The Slip

Without any warning, always web-friendly industrial overlords Nine Inch Nails posted access to a free download of its complete new album, The Slip, on its website (NIN.com) this morning.

The 10-track album is available in several formats, including MP3 and high-quality lossless formats.

To download of The Slip, which will also be issued to retail on CD and vinyl in July, you gotta join the site and enter an email address, to which a link will be sent that will include access to all format options. All downloads will also include a PDF with lyrics and artwork.

In addition, Trent is giving away the multi-track files for the album, which can be reconstructed and then posted to his band’s remix site, remix.nin.com.

A post on the site from Trent Reznor says, “Thank you for your continued and loyal support over the years -- this one's on me."

Nice.

many people are expecting a downward spiral part 2. this is not it. this is more on the rock path that year zero was on. its a great album if you give it a chance. i think its great, and the fact that its free makes the tunes that much sweeter. ive been a fan since the hate machine, and i like this album a lot. give em hell trent, and dont forget to give the hired goons at the riaa the big middle finger or the shocker, whichever you prefer.

^ Really? I thought a lot of people were expecting to see Year One but then again, their new single, "discipline" sounded more like With Teeth album. The beat in the song sound much like "Only".

It took me about 3 hours to get my confirmation e-mail for the download. I assume the servers are getting hammered today. Like most of his work, I need to listen to this several times before I make a decision.......but so far I like what I hear. Some of these will be NASTY to hear/see live! Hey G4, how about you guys update your band lineup photo as well....Jeordie and Aaron were so last year. :)

There was "warning". The comments tag in the Discipline MP3 said "Go to NIN.com on May 5". So, there's your "warning".
Also, don't forget to mention that the album is also available in "better-than-CD" quality WAV files. This is the first time I have seen a big artist do this, and it just goes to show how digital has the capability to be better than physical media.

That's cool about the remix files too. Although I must say this is not an original idea by any means. Celldweller, a.k.a. Klayton, has been doing this for a couple years now with songs off his album (he's a lot like NIN by the way, one man doing it all, industrial metal style, etc... but not as dark and creepy as NIN.) checkout remix.celldweller.com to see where Trent got the idea...

Yes, NIN sucks...right. The band that pretty much(along with a few others like KMFDM and Tool)that has made industrial metal what it is today...though the way music is nowadays, I'm not sure thats a positive thing. The better statement would be they lifted the bar of industrial metal that has yet to be surpassed in my opinion.

Nobody denies the Beastles were artistic and influencial(though the artistic aspect may be in part of copious amounts the drugs they took, but what band isn't like that), but you really can't compare the two considering both are from complete different genres of music.

At least in a sea mediocrity that is today's music scene, at least they're trying to do something for the fans. Y'know, fans? That whole concept that muscians seem to forget thats why they're even making money.

Beatles=Awesome
NIN=Awesome

Not much more needs to be said on that.

I am a mere 25 years old and I have to say that I like the Beatles and Nine Inch Nails equally. However, while the Beatles did make good music, they were horrible musicians. Their mistakes are all over their studio albums and not at all hard to hear. In Nine Inch Nails, or Trent Reznor, there is a certain amount of musicianship and quality put in to each recording. Saying something sucks or doesn't suck because of your own personal taste showcases that you are infantile and ignorant (and probably Republican). And, for your information, I know why my "parent don't understand" me. No need to wonder... C*ck.
