Microsoft Passed On Steam

Both Microsoft and Yahoo were given the opportunity to develop and own the Steam game-download service, but both companies turned it down.

Valve's Doug Lombardi said in an interview with GamesIndustry.,biz that he took the idea to boardrooms at the two companies (as well as anyone else who might be down with the idea) and presented the features he wanted to see. They answered, "That's a million miles in the future...we can't help you."
