It's Grand Theft Auto IV day around the world, which, for gamers, is like Christmas but with more car-jacking. So, let's have a little discussion group in our comments section, wanna?
See that guy above? That's Ian Gabbedon of Brooklyn, New York, purchasing the "first" North American copy of GTA IV at GameStop's midnight launch event.
We've been getting reports of long-lines at some locations, and we've been hearing about UPS guys jacking copies. Personally, I've been stealing a few minutes of playtime here and there with G4's review copy all week, but for my personal copy, I pre-ordered from Amazon.
"You're mad, Stephen Johnson," I hear you say. "You'll be waiting for days!"
Mad like a fox. While everyone else at work spent yesterday chasing down game stores that might break the release date by a couple hours or planning which midnight opening they would be attending, I sat back and waited. Lo and behold, at around 3 PM Pacific time yesterday, a smiling UPS guy delivered a fresh GTA IV to my door. That's six hours before midnight, son--six glorious extra hours of Liberty City. Hours before Ian Gabbendon got his.
Thanks, Amazon. I'd like to think it's because my internet fame opened doors, but in reality, living in the same city as a shipping center seems to have insured my early GTA arrival.
How about you? Do you have a copy? Are you getting one? How did you get it? What do you think so far?
