18% Of HDTVs Bought For Gaming

Posted by Patrick Roche-Sowa - Friday, April 25, 2008 9:58 AM

A new study from Frank N. Magid Associates has found that 5.5 million households purchased an HDTV set for the first time during the 2007/2008 holiday season. I have one, many of our staff have one, and i'm expecting many of you do as well. What surprised us is that we're not the only people who got HDTVs to match our gaming console. According to the study, 18% of HDTV purchases last year were specifically to take advantage of the high-definition signals able to be output by the Xbox 360 and PS3.

This is how they get you. They start out offering you your favorite games and shows in HD, then your favorite movies on Bluray, and next thing you know you're selling your body on the corner so you can afford an OLED tv with 4 HDMI inputs and ambient lighting technology. I'm not kidding, I really want one of those tvs.

HDTV's are not all that. I'll wait til they get real cheap. Meanwhile, I'll keep enjoying my 27" modern Sanyo SDTV. Which has a much richer picture than a lot of HDTV's.

Everybody i used to live with has an HDTV now except for me but i am definitely the next family member to get my 1st HDTV and i can truly testify that the 1080i and 1080p versions of the HDTV's are definitely superior in picture quality and sound and the one i am getting later on this year hopefully is definitely going to be used for my original XBOX and PS2 and for my future PS3 and maybe the so-called but not elite at all XBOX 360 Elite if the PIMP and THIEF Microsoft steps it's game up by remaking and totally fixing all of the versions of their XBOX 360's on the inside the right way finally and obviously so the one that i might purchase if i can't get nobody else to do that for me or if i get rich one day will not BREAK and DIE on me at all,YOU FEEL ME?

earthmonkeyy's comment is hilarious.
Somewhere in an obscure small town in possibly the midwest or south there's a stubborn fool saying, "DVD's aren't all that. I'll stick with my VHS tapes on my old black and white 13" t.v."
Honestly, the difference between SDTV and HDTV is like staring at the stars in the sky with the naked eye and then upgrading to a telescope.
