A new study from Frank N. Magid Associates has found that 5.5 million households purchased an HDTV set for the first time during the 2007/2008 holiday season. I have one, many of our staff have one, and i'm expecting many of you do as well. What surprised us is that we're not the only people who got HDTVs to match our gaming console. According to the study, 18% of HDTV purchases last year were specifically to take advantage of the high-definition signals able to be output by the Xbox 360 and PS3.
This is how they get you. They start out offering you your favorite games and shows in HD, then your favorite movies on Bluray, and next thing you know you're selling your body on the corner so you can afford an OLED tv with 4 HDMI inputs and ambient lighting technology. I'm not kidding, I really want one of those tvs.
