Brett Favre Officially 'Madden' Cover Guy

Posted by Stephen Johnson - Friday, April 25, 2008 7:32 AM

It wasn't exactly a well-kept secret (we reported on the rumor yesterday), but now it's officially official: Superstar football man Brett Favre will be gracing the cover of Madden '09.

Madden '09 marks the 20th anniversary(!) of the popular football series, Favre's inclusion is the first time a retired player will be on the cover.

“Madden NFL Football and Brett Favre are sports icons who have set the standard and revolutionized their positions within their respective genres,” said Madden NFL Executive Producer Dale Jackson. “Brett Favre is a perfect fit for the Madden NFL 09 cover, as he epitomizes everything the franchise has stood for the past 20 years - longevity, excellence, and a love of football.”

The game will come out on every system known to man before Christmas. Later this morning, we'll have a gallery of three screenshots and a retrospective video to enjoy, so check back!

There's a picture of the 360 cover under the cut.

So, the madden curse ends here... you watch, he'll get into a car wreck or something. lol Good choice EA

Sweet! It's about time they got a white guy on the cover of Madden! Plus, since Favre is retired, he can't get the Madden curse! I think that's a great way to honor him since he retired not even 2 months ago.

Posted by Anonmis - Friday, April 25, 2008 7:51 AM

Watch..... he's going to decide he wants to come out of retirement.... play for a team and get a serious injury having to regret it all.

Posted by coolhandchris - Friday, April 25, 2008 7:56 AM

Couldnt have went to a more deserving player. Us Atlanta Falcons fans are still kicking our selves for trading his ass. lol

Posted by dudethisrocks - Friday, April 25, 2008 8:04 AM

Ummmmmmm. will he even be in the game......... cause he is retired.......mabye......

Posted by tanker58p - Friday, April 25, 2008 8:08 AM

he is a well deserving man congrats

Posted by enzospartan - Friday, April 25, 2008 8:18 AM

ya he deserves this cover. 20th anniversary and he retired so you kinda have to put him on it.

Posted by Manfool - Friday, April 25, 2008 8:36 AM

I bet ea gave him the cover to make sure he stays retired. The curse doesn't have to happen on the field.

Posted by Ackackadak - Friday, April 25, 2008 8:43 AM

Thank god it's not AP!

Posted by darkmanXL - Friday, April 25, 2008 9:11 AM

Even if Brett didn't retire seriously WHO better to break the "curse".. This guy is a warrior plain and simple, he'd spit on the curse..

I was hoping for Pac Man Jones, oh well, maybe next year

Posted by Juicelee - Friday, April 25, 2008 9:30 AM

now frank caliendo has a an arsenal of new madden/farve jokes

Posted by Zetsuei - Friday, April 25, 2008 9:56 AM

finally, a white guy is on there

Posted by mberko1 - Friday, April 25, 2008 9:57 AM

all of you retards must know nothing about sports, this is like the 10th post i've seen; IT'S SPELLED 'FAVRE' NOT FARVE!

Posted by typhonic - Friday, April 25, 2008 10:06 AM

Well at least us Packers fans have something to look foward to this season. Still if you're gonna go out, not many better ways to do it. As far as the Curse goes, the man threw the best game of his career the day after his dad died. I don't think a video game cover can touch him.

Posted by BONERJAM - Friday, April 25, 2008 10:15 AM

Last thing an egomaniac like Favre needs is a madden cover. I'm not suprised he is on there, a bet John Madden pushed for his boyfriend to make the cover.

Posted by KobraKid - Friday, April 25, 2008 12:44 PM

Hahaha u guys r right he is the first white guy.
regardless i think he was a good choice... he had a good year hopefully Vernon Davis for 2010

i REALLY hope the game is better...it was kool..but dont lie, we all have more fun playin 08 on regular Xbox..but here are some things that i think should b fixed

1 CLEAR VISORS
2 Fix those ugly wristbands/ QB wrist that look HUMONGOUS
3 and it looks like they kinda fixed the ppl

ps I love Madden, im not just criticizing the franchise

Posted by Towdow3 - Friday, April 25, 2008 12:50 PM

three things farve represents, longevity, excellence, and a love for football. Only 2 of those are true. I never thought Farve was THAT good of a QB. the guy wood thro 6 ints in a game!! how is that excellence? MADDEN GAMES do NOT equall excellence, if so, then we would still hav 2k games, and EA wouldnt be trying to create a monopoly either. whats the deal with a white guy on the cover? dont yall get enough props? who cares if the guy is black or white, or indian hawaiian. suck it up "man"

Posted by mberko1 - Friday, April 25, 2008 3:45 PM

don't even speak of favre if you can't spell his name right dumbsh%t

Posted by triforceninja114201 - Friday, April 25, 2008 4:40 PM

very fitting

Posted by Frekydelic - Friday, April 25, 2008 5:12 PM

Brett Favre was the greatest football player, or at least one of, that ever played.

But don't you think the cover looks a liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiitle ugly?

Posted by typhonic - Friday, April 25, 2008 9:06 PM

Towdow3 has a point, Favre does hold the record for most interceptions in a career. He also has the one for most yards, most completions, most attempts, most wins, most MVPs, most consective starts for a QB, and most TD's. Totally nothing excellent about that.

Seriously what does it take to be excellent?

Posted by TheKei - Sunday, April 27, 2008 12:23 AM

Sometimes you get a lot of interceptions if you pass a lot. At least he takes chances. It reminds me of COD4. I got killed 34 times today on the Shipment level on Domination. Not too happy about that, but I got 80 kills and 15 assists by being aggressive like Favre's passing game.

Posted by edbig98 - Sunday, April 27, 2008 6:45 AM

Ok, first off...Why is it such a big deal that a white guy made the cover? A lot of great players have graced the cover of the Madden games, and those who did have either had a successful season, or have had a bad season due to the "Madden Curse". I think that it's a great honor that Bret Favre got the opportunity to grace the cover. What better way to say "Thank you Bret" than by having him be the representative for the 20th Anniversary Edition of the game? It shouldn't matter if a black or white player graces the cover...It should only matter that the best players representing the league have the opportunity to be in the game. For you to say that "Finally, A white guy is on the cover", shows that you have no true knowledge of sportsmanship, of honor for the sport and no sense at all. If I were you, I would take a hard look in the mirror and see what true kind of fan you are...

Brett Favre is in the top 5 quaterbacks to ever play the sport. Towdow3 is one of the dumbest people ever. If you have 288 interceptions, it is probobally from the 8,000 or so passes. He has the most attempts, completions, starts, wins, TD's, and yards. If that is not number two (only behind Joe Montana), then I don't know what is. Brett Favre had one of the best careers ever and this dumb@$$ Towdow3 can't talk. And as for the white guy thing, who cares that he is white! It is not like he is breaking a color barrier! For God's sake, he's not Jackie Robinson. Although, it is cool that the first white guy is a Packer. GO PACK GO!!! And good luck to Aaron Rodgers. Brett is my Favreite. 4 4ever! Congrats on one of the greatest football careers ever Brett. Good way to go out, playoffs and Maden cover! Packers are the best franchise ever! WOOHOO!

Posted by Towdow3 - Friday, September 26, 2008 9:23 AM

I could care less if a black guy white guy indian i dont care because im not a madden fan, but it would be nice to have women on the cover!! Everyone please forgive me for stating that great players can actually keep the ball in their hands. How many fumbles did Sweetness have? Or Emmmitt? How many dropped passes does Jerry Rice have? Does Micheal Jordan hold the all-time turnover record? How many superbowls has Brett Won? 1. Yes he is good but to say that he is Great? Mistakes mean alot and to say that you can over shadow giving the ball away 2-3 times a game is just incorrect. I'm just saying I dont think Brett Farve, lol is THAT good. Not better than Manning, Montana, Staubach, Brady,(lets asume that the younger guys have retired, lol) Personally I would take several others ahead of him anyway. I just cant trust a guy who would take that many chances, thats not greatness. Great players make other people great.
