RZA Launches Wu Tang Online Chess

Posted April 18, 2008 - By Frank Meyer

Wu Tang Clan mastermind RZA recently teamed with Chesspark.com to launch Wuchess.com, an online community where chess-lovin’ hip hop fans can compete in live games with other chess players.

The official launch is expected to take place in a few weeks, but fans can pre-register now and join later for an unspecified yearly fee. Members will get exclusive invitations to a bi-annual chess playing event to be held in a to-be-announced location later this year. A portion of the revenue will be donated to charities including the Hip-Hop Chess Federation.

RZA says that the new site is "a chance to have fun and learn as you go."

Meanwhile, RZA has a new side-project group called Achozen with System of a Down bassist Shavo Odadjian, Kinetic 9 (aka Beretta 9 from Killarmy) and up-and-coming Chicago rapper Reverend William Burke. The rap-rock outfit have recorded a self-titled debut album that is set to be released this summer on Shavo's online digital label, urSESSION, and features cameos from Wu tang’s GZA, George Clinton, Red Hot Chili Peppers' John Frusciante, Wu Tang affiliate Killah Priest and Sick Jacken from Psycho Realm. The first single, "Deuces," will premiere on urSESSION.com on April 22nd, at 4:22PM PDT. Achozen plans to embark on a nation-wide tour later this year in support of the album.
