Spider-man Gets New Game This August

Activision has officially announced the next Spider-man game. It will be called Spider-man: Web of Shadows and appear on virtually every console ever including DS, PSP, PC, PS2, PS3, Wii, and 360. This should come as no great surprise as there had already been rumors swirling, but to hear it's official is calming.

They haven't said much about what the game will entail except that it's a restructuring of the open-world New York gameplay that allows for more vertical battling up in the sky and lets the player make choices on which missions to follow, and which to ignore.

No word yet on if the game will suck like 3, but we're holding our hearts in our hands for a good Spider-man game. We feel we deserve it.

The game is set for release in August of this year and if you're going to be at the New York Comic-con this week, you'll be able to audition for voice over jobs on the game. Videos of the auditions are going to be posted on the Web of Shadow's web site where users can vote on who they like. Nice.

STOP with the spiderman games already.

give gambit a goddamn game, or ANYONE in the marvel Universe.

yeah spideys cool, but even his kinda cool wears off after a dozen or so games. the Marvel U has so many interesting characters/villians that re-hashin the same storyline, that everyone knows (even 4 year olds) is stupid.

they can improve on past games, but what really could be that much different? shoot webs, climb wall, hit bad guys.

this is why Im DYING for the iron man game. finally a game with some new ideas.

Keep your fingers crossed for a good Spiderman game and you will develop arthritis.

Until Activision gets their act together, we will never have a good next gen spiderman. If they would simply focus on improving graphics, sound, and gameplay for the newer consoles, then "maybe" the games would rock. For now, they just design for the lowest common denominator in consoles (PS2 or Wii) and make the graphics as best they can for those, then just push that over to the 360 and PS3 with virtually no enhancements.

I was so disappointed on Spiderman3 purely because of that.
I'd LOVE to play a great Spiderman game, but at this point, my expectations are low.

I hope this one is good.

Spiderman 3 sucked. I beat the game and then it asks me if I want to start over with the black suit the whole time, so I decide to do it. Once I start over I relize that my stats are all gone and now I have to play the whole game over again just to get the achievements. Screw that!

They have a trailer for it over on IGN, and it looks kind of dark for a spidey game. Im intrigued.

They fix the fighting mechanics, and bring swinging back into line (I kinda thought that Spider-man 2's swinging was better). Spiderman has potential as a game. If you look at Batman, Superman, or fantastic four games they all sucked. What superhero in the Marvel Universe could work better than Spider-man in a game? We all know that Iron Man is probably going to suck. I'm excited about this new game, and if it sucks, I'll still get Spiderman 5.

Theirs nothing wrong with Spider-Man games. Their not HALO their not God of War. Spider-Man 3(the game) was a decent and AVERAGE game. It could of been better, YES i agree, but what it was, was fun. The WebSwinging is the best part of the game and its still fun and done nearly perfectly. The combat system worked. Story, variety missions, wall crawling, spider sense/dodging needed more fine tuning. Where was the unlockable costumes, playing as Venom, playing as New Goblin and Green Goblin. Where was the Oscorp building and the Mary Jane building poster ad from Spidey 2? Why couldnt we deliver pizzas for a side mission? They let you take pictures but dont let you include it as part of the game. You could of took pictures during a Boss Fight and sold them to Jonah at the Bugle. I like in Spidey 2 you could play as Peter Parker in the Bugle. Hell where was that kid who lost his ballon?

Spider-Man 3 yeah its a movie game yet it doesnt really feel like the movie. It barely has scenes that are actually from the movie. I was very let down by Spidey 2 and the train scene in the game was BEYOND LAME. I think they really rush out those movie games and i dont think they really work together with the films. I think ACTIVISION doesnt realize you CAN tell an amazing story in a game. Although i do think each Activision Spidey game does get a little better, just barely. Their like the Madden or THQ's WWE games their out every year but each one adds a new feature or does atleast ONE thing right.

I think Activision tried to make up for not having playable VENOM by creating Spidey Friend or Foe which was a lesser game then Spidey 3. It was more of a beat'em game, But you could play as SANDMAN, DOC OCK, NewGoblin, GreenGoblin, and VENOM i will say it was nice you could also play as Symbiote blacksuit Spidey. I would love to work on a Spider-Man game. I hope Web of Shadows gets it right, I'm guessing its based off its comics, so characters and stories should be an OPEN BOOK with no restrictions. I also hope they include the statue of Liberty, i remember it was cool to be able to swing around the statue in Spidey 2game. But lets face it, Web of Shadows comes out a year after Spider-Man 3 so for some reason i dont think Activision will change much from the Spider-Man 3 formula and thats a shame. Spider-Man as a game could be on par with HALO, MGS, and God of War, they just need the RIGHT person in charge to lead them to GAMING GREATNESS.

I agree that Spider-Man 2 had the best swinging mechanics. Why the hell did they change it for SP3?
Hell, I'll get ripped out of my gourd and throw in Spidey 2 and just swing around for a while.

The best spiderman game IMO was Ultimate Spiderman, mostly everything just seemed to work.. Some of the Venom levels were kinda bad but the overall game was pretty good..

ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN was a pretty good game. The WebSwinging was good, i liked how you had control of how high or low you could swing while you were swinging so that was nice. But i mean i dont know if i would call it a game. It was really really short, and New York was pretty much cut in half. So you didnt have a full New York to play in. Thats prolly its only downside. The Venom stuff i thought was them experimenting for Spidey 3 yet no playable Venom in Spidey 3game. But Eating people as Venom was fun. Embrace the Darkness, hahaha
