'StarGate Worlds' Devs Form FireSky

Posted by Stephen Johnson - Thursday, April 17, 2008 7:54 AM

StarGate Worlds, a sci-fi MMO based on the StarGate series, will be published by a brand new company called FireSky.

FireSky invented something they call the "SNAP system, "which they describe as " a unified theory of online gaming that combines social interaction, economies and game play across a variety of titles."

Okay... I guess we like that.

The FireSky team calls their next phase “Project: Ascension," and promises it will "bring gamers together in new and unprecedented ways.“

Okay... I guess that's good. But will it be fun?

"We don’t intend to be another garden-variety games publisher,” said FireSky CEO Tim Jenson. “We are focused on publishing high quality social gaming experiences online. As the industry moves online, more and more people will be turning to games as a way to spend time with friends. With a few notable exceptions, game developers and publishers haven’t done a great job of marrying quality games with social experiences. Project: Ascension and SNAP games will change that dynamic forever.”

FireSky promises a peak into a variety of games over the summer, though nothing all that new for now.

I'm really wondering how "Stargate: Worlds" is gonna work in practice. I mean, are you gonna have the option of forming SG teams, or being a Jaffa for a given System Lord, or can you BECOME a System Lord, or...what? Suckas wants ta know!

Then, what do you actually DO? Explore planets or try to dominate them? Liberate them from Goa'uld occupation?

Lots of questions. I want this to be a fun game -- it's the MMO my wife and I might actually play!

Also, can you play a Furling? 'Cause, mister, that would be ACES.

I am very excited and looking forward to Stargate Worlds, an MMO with countless television episodes of back story and lore, tactical/strategy based gameplay, and from what I've heard the game will be fairly casual in nature and not demand countless hours of grinding.

I just want a freakin timetable for once. Some one give me a time frame on when. I mean, i'm going to play it so i hope it's good. And if it is balanced like other Scifi Based games, it could be awesome. So here's hopping it's coming out soon!
