A mere 3 months after the retail release of Pirates of the Burning Sea, some of the servers that house the universe are shutting down. 7 out of 11 total drives that hold the burning seas will walk the plank so that players can experience a "higher density" when playing.
So for folks who are a purveyor of the burning seas, this should make them a little more burningery and hopefully it doesn't signal an eventual collapse. It would be one of the bigger implosions in MMO history so we can't say we're opposed as we love the fireworks of a good epic failure. But uh… good luck to them.

Biggest problem? The OLD concept that mindless travel for hours is fun. If you buy multiple ships and put them in different ports you can quick travel, but otherwise you're forced to sail from one port to another. Some are 2 minutes apart, others are more like 20. Then you have to go back, another 20. It adds up quick and it's incredibly boring. Plus the missions are uninspired. Just not a good MMO overall.
Instead, I'll bet PotC dies in a couple of years (unless they come out with a new movie and can get an even older Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightly back. I'd say Disney choosing to go with a new property is much more likely.
I never even played Pirates--but if some people liked it then please stfu and let them enjoy themselves without having to continue suckling at the wow-teat.
Don't worry, you will still be able to hand over cash month after month to do daily quests (seriously, the same quests, day after day.. you pay for that?) ubiquitous rep grinding and buy expansion after expansion for swords that are 18% shinier and shoulderpads that are 24% spikier!! YAY!
It had a very good run for an MMO you had to pay for...
Guess its happening all over the MMO world
Blow me. I never said I played WoW. In fact I'll go ahead and tell you right now that I don't and never really have. I played that for about 3 months and got bored with it too. I don't latch onto MMOs very frequently and the only one holding my attention at the moment is Lord of the Rings Online. So who needs to stfu? Looks like you.
@SportsGuy
You're confusing two titles. Pirates of the Caribbean Online is actually kind of fun, especially since it's essentially free. PotBS is a much more serious and realistic take on that era and it just drags.
