Like horny teenage boys trying to impress that impossibly hot chick that won't give anyone play, in the world of huge internet giant companies, everyone is running game on Yahoo.
According to an unnamed source quoted by Reuters, Yahoo Inc and Time Warner Inc are "closing in" on a merger deal where Yahoo combines with AOL, thereby making an end-run around Microsoft. Here's how it will supposedly work: Yahoo will receive money from Time Warner for 20 percent of the combined Yahoo-AOL business. Surely this relationship will end in happiness... unless Microsoft has its way and steals the girl:
The New York Times is reporting that Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation is talking to Microsoft about becoming a wingman in the pursuit of Yahoo. Murdoch plans to join the contested bid for Yahoo, and eventually create the internet equivalent of a polygamous marriage or a Frankenstein's monster: They're talking about combining myspace, MSN, and Yahoo into a single huge something.
Much like high school, while all the jocks fight for flashy but ultimately shallow prizes like Yahoo, we'll continue to pursue the internet equivalent of quirky chicks who listen to cool music and like Goddard films.
