First Warhammer 40K MMO Details

Posted by Patrick Roche-Sowa - Wednesday, April 09, 2008 9:55 AM

Even though THQ has confirmed that the Warhammer 40,000 MMO is still years away, a few details about the game have dropped onto the internet from a few different sources. First of all, the game will play out as a shooter-based MMORPG, utilizing cover, supressive fire, and flanking; similar to Tabula Rasa. Mythic is also preparing the game to handle raid parties fo up to 70 players, which could be a new milestone for the genre.

Mythic's Creative Director Joe Madureira confidently stated that there will be "tons of stuff hanging off your character, weapons, scrolls... we are going to have the coolest looking characters of any MMO, ever. Once we begin releasing images, feel free to call me on that." Players will be fighting the good fight in "cities, alien temples, Chaos shrines, deserted battlefields, mysterious ruins, ancient structures, and - here's the cool one - 'drifting hulks in space'."

Do want.

Hehehehe! Who'd have guessed they'd ever have Space Hulk as part of an MMO? :D

Thanks The Feed!

Wait a second, last time I checked THQ had exclusive rights to 40k and was using Vigil in Austin TX to develop the game. Additionally, Paul Barnete is currently the creative director for EAMythic. Did THQ drop Vigil for developer and get Mythic to work on this project?

I also just checked, Joe Madureira is Vigil Games' creative director, known for his work at Marvel Comics. I don't think Mythic is doing this game.

Seems like there is confusion between Mythic's Fantasy Warhammer MMO and THQ/Vigil's Warhammer 40K MMO (With Joe Mad being Creative Director at Vigil).

Vigil/THQ, Warhammer 40,000

Mythic, Warhammer (fantasy)

Warhammer tabletop is lame.
Warhammer models are also lame.
Warhammer books are good.
This game already sounds awesome and its not even done yet.

Exclusive rights? There are two different Warhammer MMOs being created right now... One is supposed to be released later this year (http://www.warhammeronline.co m/). The other (the one they are talking about above) looks like its going to be an MMOFPS, not MMORPG. I've been seeing people related it to Planetside (god I hope not)(http://www.gamespot.com/n ews/6166560.html best source I can find on info for that one).

I've seen some descriptive videos on YouTube about the MMORPG, in my opinion it doesn't look too promising. It seems like its being carried by some people that aren't huge fans of that lore or where the Warhammer franchise has been.

Cant wait for it to come out! I love the tabletop game and the computer games, and soon to be a MMO! For the Empire!
