'Legend of Zelda' Movie On The Way?

IGN is reporting that a Legend of Zelda movie is in production and will be released on April 1st 2009.

The fantasy adaptation of one of the great properties in gaming history is being written and directed by newcomer Sam Balcomb. Link is played by JR Killigrew, Camille C. Brown portrays Princess Zelda, and Gregory Lee Kenyon stars as Ganondorf. No mention of who will be playing Navi, we'd like to suggest Richard Simmons.

I was amused to see the headline, but then thought,"Nintendo is too controlling to let a Zelda movie be made".

I figured it was an AF when I saw Richard Simmons name.

You know someone went to a lot of trouble just for a fake trailer. It did look pretty cool. Now I'm all for a Zelda movie. I wouldn't expect anything great. It would just be cool.

Why I think it will get made...some day

1. I liked the Super Mario Bros. Movie (when I was 6 now I have to admit it kinda sucks)
2. Just because a movie will most likely suck does not mean it wont get made (see every movie with Madonna in it and every other video game movie made so far)
3. My cats breath smeels like cat food...concidence? I think not

If that piece of Crap came out in theaters then you can call gaming dead.

hmm... Even though it was a joke, it was still awesome to see some of that in live action. The concept was really good e.g. spinning blade peahat things.

but sadly it looked like bad acting and made for tv effects

Yeah but ever since the debacle that is "Super Mario Bros." I don't think Nintendo has used a game for a live action movie since. I could be wrong though. But it probably still leaves a bad taste in their mouth.

Unlike most other gaming companies, Nintendo has a (for the most part) much higher quality to uphold. So in essence they have more to lose by making a crap movie. Again, for the most part, Nintendo churns out hit after hit after hit. It's already impossibly hard to have a movie live up to a crap game. Just imagine how hard it is to have a movie live up to a Nintendo quality game. For example although the Resident Evil movies are "fun" to watch, they're not the greatest and in no way do they come close to matching the quality of the games.

That trailer looked good for the most part despite it being an AF joke.

I do have one off topic comment concerning the fact that every time some big, huge, epic film is being suggested that everyone goes on shouting and screaming for Peter Jackson to make these films. Peter Jackson is not going to make every single epic fantasy film there is, he is just one man and cannot and most likely will not do so, so please STOP IT WITH THE "PETER JACKSON MAKE THIS MOVIE!!"

Hmm...

I thought it looked cool at the beginning, but got kind of lame toward the middle. It was good for a joke, but I'd cry if a Zelda movie came out in theaters looking like that.

I don't think a live action Zelda movie would be a good idea because (1) no one ever can seem to get the hat right. It always looks way stupider in real life than in the game, and (2), you're never going to be able to find a real guy who looks like Link, and you probably couldn't get a girl to pull off the look either(that would be creepy anyways).

I think a computer animation movie would be better, because it would be easier to make the characters and settings look like they do in the games.

In reality though, they're never gonna make a Zelda movie anyway. Too bad, but I'll be happy as long as they keep making the games.

@heavymetalwolf they are not cosplayers. I know Camille [Zelda] (we used to do theater together) and she's not much of a gamer or cosplayer. They are actual actors (if not well-known yet). And honestly, she said the coolest thing about portraying Zelda was that she had "pointy ears" which just shows that she is not a big zelda fanatic either.

And i personally thought the trailer was pretty good. Though link was way too old, and it was confusing why Talon and Malon were accompanying link to Hyrule. And i didn't think that zedla should have that kind of accent.

And as others have pointed out, how can anyone pull off that gay of a hat???!
