'Madden 09' Ship Date, Special Edition

Posted by Mike D'Alonzo - Thursday, March 27, 2008 2:20 PM

Madden NFL 09 will ship on August 12th, and commemorating the 20th Anniversary of the series, there will be a special edition of the game shipped at the same time. The Madden NFL 09 20th Anniversary Collector’s Edition will contain the Madden NFL 09 game, along with NFL Head Coach 09, and some exclusive gameplay from the history of the Madden franchise.

There's no news on gameplay changes or who the cover athlete will be yet, but we have a sneaking suspicion it's going to be someone dressed in blue, most likely Eli Manning, or maybe Tom Brady. Either way, we're hoping the curse holds up.

This time the PS3 will have 60 frames!

So long as it isn't either of the Mannings on the cover, cuz I love the Colts, I'm down with Eli, and I don't want the curse to screw them up. So come on, EA, put Brady on the cover!

Gameplay changes? Right.

EA has been selling the same game for at least the last 3-4 years - hence all the extra marketing they've been doing in that span with tournaments and such.

I just don't understand how/why people flock to this franchise every year when all the really get is a roster update - which could be handled with a simple download.

DJOmega6 was using reverse psycology. Put Eli and Peyton on the cover!(While Brady breaks efven more records ;D )

Go Pats!

I might've bought NFL Coach 09 if they made it for the wii, never palyed Madden before except on maybe 1 or 2 occassions

It's too bad none of you tools remembered that EA doesn't like to showcase the same position two years in a row; i.e. they don't want to put another quarterback on the cover when they just put one last year.

I'm thinking it'll either be AP if he accepts or someone like Kellen Winslow or Braylon Edwards. It'd be nice to see a te on the cover though.

So what's the difference in this game from the last one?.......

Whats the difference between all those Mario Games (really how many times can Peach get kidnapped by the same dude).
Has Mario Kart evolved past a racer were you shoot turtle shells at each other.
Every game we play is the same game over and over with slight variances in story and mechanics. Every fighting game and FPS are the same game. Every RPG is the same, a bunch of inventory checking and turn based combat. The Madden Franchise is no different, every year some change happens, some great like being able to break routes to take advantage of hole in coverage and some bad like QB vision. Honestly I ask the haters how much change do you expect in a game based in reality around FOOTBALL. Until Football changes I don't think Madden needs any drastic changes.

For all the ppl who say its the same game.. True they haven't tried to re-invent the wheel, but the the same game it is not. The changes have been more subtle, the biggest improvements have been in in the A.I. dept, is it perfect no but better than ANY other football game.. Those who loved the 2k series lemme ask you have you seen DB get burned on the same pattern time after time? I play CB if i see the same pattern 2 times in a row, I'm jumpin that route.. This never happened in ANY 2k games.. Madden you have to switch things up bcuz they will adjust, but by no means is it perfect.. And honestly you wanna talk the same game 2k hasn't changed since it debuted on the dreamast, you still run on a grid, out patterns are still godly, and all the players still look like they are 7ft tall.. Madden isn't perfect but it is a better game than 2k was..
