Gaming Market Window Shrinking

Posted by Mike D'Alonzo - Thursday, March 27, 2008 11:31 AM

In the fast-paced hustle and bustle of today's world, the time you have to determine whether or not you like something is shrinking. Let's take videogames, for example. According to the VP of business development of Capcom, games are on an extremely short leash when it comes to their opportunity to sell.

How short, you might ask? How about a week. Yep, the sales cycle of games is so specific that, often times, if there's a game that's not performing well out of the box, it's considered 'dead on arrival' and thrown out of the nest, like a baby chick that's been handled by a human. So, if there's a game you really want, you should make sure and get it quick, just in case no one else wants it, or you might never see it again.

Or buy it used at gamestop, since there's always someone who didn't like the game.

This is why its a bad idea releasing too many good games at once. They kill each other and only the strong(franchise sequels/over hyped)survive.Poor Beyond good and evil was a victim of this.Released in the middle of the holiday season to people to busy to notice.Ths failure of Okami on the ps2 killed Clover studios and Viewtiful Joe.There is no way to buy 6 or more games at once without serious damage to ones wallet especially with games on some systems being $60 plus. The only thing that saved Prince of Persia was a free copy of Splinter cell.
