'Metal Gear Online' Previewed @ Next-Gen

Next-Gen.biz recently got some hands-on time with Metal Gear Online, which goes into beta next month. Metal Gear Solid 4 will include a starter pack, but the full game will be a separate product either through DLC or retail.

The game will support up to 16 players and features the following confirmed game modes:

Deathmatch
Team Deathmatch
Capture the Flag
Flag Defense
Base-Capture

Hit the cut for information about auto-aim and character customization.

Auto-aim is in the game, but don't panic. It'll only be useful at close range. This should alleviate having to rush into first-person when someone is two feet in front of you. However, it'll be useless at long range and first-person aiming will be more accurate.

Characters can be customized in both appearance and skills. Your characters abilities are determined by 4 skills, which mimics Call of Duty 4's Perk system, but each skill will actually level up over time.

Why are there ppl trying to write this game off before playing it? Is this like the thing for 360 fans to do? Bash anything thats not on the 360? Just like liek everyone annointed Halo3 to be the greatest game ever and it looks like I wasn't the only 1 a lil dissappointed by it. While the game is great it had great hype it didn't live up to. Now MGS4 & anything MG seems to inspire such hate & rage from the 360 fanboys bcuz its PS3 exclusive, lets just give credit when credit is due.. History says this game will be good, great? who knows, play it 1st..

I hope you can take your avatar from Home and play online with it. oh, wait. no I don't.

I guess if you think about it, MGS Online is it's own game, kinda like Warhawk. It's just coming out at the same time as MGS4? I hope it's less than $40.

Actually, Kojima has said that they already filled the blu-ray and didn't have room for the extra audio tracks (Japanese in the states, English in Japan, etc.) So it isn't unreasonable to assume MGO will be just DLC for the most part, and just use the starter pack as bait, or extensive demo, to hook MGS fans.

The graphical appeal just isn't there for me. A flagship title like MG should hold a high standard in graphics.. Although gameplay is the big part, when the potential is there and is not totally utilized it's kind of a bummer.
I still have hope for it though. It's not out yet.
