The Hollywood Remake Train just keeps on rollin'!
DenOfGeek.com has posted a list of 38 scheduled remakes hitting Hollywood that you may or may not be aware of. Most of these are confirmed, but a couple have since gone the way of the dodo or, at the very least, are on death's door.
It is worth noting that not all these are actual "remakes." Instead, they seem to run the gamut of other "R" words, such as Reboot, Reimagining, etc. The list of films includes some gems and some shaky ideas at best:
Dune - Forget the David Lynch masterpiece (Yes, I said masterpiece. Bring it!). This version is being brought to you by Peter Berg, the director behind Friday Night Lights and The Kingdom. He also directed Very Bad Things. So, I guess that means we can expect Dune to be filled with killer action, complex drama, wonderful, three-dimensional characters... and a dead hooker.
The Thing - This one gets filed under the Prequel/Reimagining/Non-Remake tag. Writer Ronald D. Moore of Battlestar Galactica and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine is working on the script. When asked about how it differs from the original, Moore has responded by the calling the new one a "companion piece" to the original. Probably more than anything else on this list, Ronald D. Moore taking on The Thing gets me jazzed.
Footloose - No Kevin Bacon. No John Lithgow. And, most disturbingly, no Lori Singer. Since this remake is being helmed by Kenny Ortega of High School Musical, High School Musical 2, and the upcoming High School Musical 3, we can probably expect the remake/reimagining via Broadway just as we saw with The Producers and Hairspray.
