Obama Coming To Comic-Con?

Posted by Mike D'Alonzo - Friday, March 14, 2008 2:48 PM

Barack Obama might be courting the ever-important geek vote by reaching out to Comic-Con in the hopes of making an appearance there, according to reports. No, we are not kidding. Now, we've got no idea what Senator Obama might be wanting to do there, aside from the fact that he could very well be a comic book fan, but we think it's pretty damn cool, nonetheless.

Wouldn't it be hilarious to see Obama at the convention engaged in some cosplay, or waiting in line to meet Brian Michael Bendis or some such? Now that's the audacity of hope, friends, and we LOVE it.

Now thats what I call campaigning

Posted by coolhandchris - Friday, March 14, 2008 4:16 PM
If he comes dressed as Blade hes got my vote.

Posted by deathsdelivery - Friday, March 14, 2008 4:43 PM
Why does he have to be Blade, Dude he could easily dress as any f king SH he wants.
what next Luke Cage or some other bullsh t.

Your Moms should go dressed as Wonder-Mutt, or Howard the Duck, you stereotype hugging f k.

Posted by nyadt - Friday, March 14, 2008 4:53 PM
now that takes balls to campaign in a convention center with hard core nerds! :D

Posted by cogadh - Friday, March 14, 2008 5:05 PM
@deathsdelivery - Why do you assume that coolhandchris was making some type of stereotype remark? Maybe he's just a really big Blade fan. Maybe you actually have the stereotype problem. Would you overreact the same way if Obama were white and coolhandchris said "If he comes dressed as Superman hes got my vote."? I kind of doubt it.

Thanks cogadh. Dude im a really huge Blade fan, and I would LOVE to see Barack with the funny hair line, the glasses and the tatts. I didnt mean anything by that comment.

Posted by excaleranth - Friday, March 14, 2008 6:47 PM
Well, first he'd have to grow some more hair... or get a wig, but that's not as impressive. And the tatts? He may have an easier time cosplaying as Batman.

No matter what he does he's not getting my vote. I've hated the guy since long before he got into the presidential race. One vote on one topic does not equal the ability to lead. People may say lots of other presidents didn't have experience either, but I'm not voting for them am I? And who says I liked any of them. Obama is a big nothing who is running a popularity contest, not a political one. He makes me sick.

Posted by cogadh - Friday, March 14, 2008 8:02 PM
Like the others currently running are any better? Clinton has only been a national politician 1 year longer than Obama (sorry, but being married to the President doesn't count as political experience) and McCain has been a politician for so long that he is an integral part of everything that is wrong with American politics. Don't even get me started on Nader, my dog would make a better President than him. I'm with Bellamorte on this, "It's not like we have anyone else to vote for..."

Meh...all politicians will always be ignorant people. So though!... Comic Con is coming up?

Barak Saddam Obama (That is his real name) = Socialist/Communist = Bad for America!!! :)

Posted by dougdangger - Saturday, March 15, 2008 12:24 AM
Barack Hussein Osama is the last thing America needs.

Hilary is riding the wave of "I'm a woman." and Osama is riding the "I'm a blackman" wave.

Hussein Osama has no history. We don't know enough about this guy. For all we know, he could be Bin Laden after a facelift without his towel over his head.

I don't like McCain, but he's the less of 3 evils.

I give the guy credit for actually serving our country.

Our soldiers are the TRUE heroes, not some drugged up Hollywood junkie that is found dead in his room after having a rough night in the bath house.

Posted by cogadh - Saturday, March 15, 2008 8:10 AM
@SGAanubisSG1 - Um, no that isn't his real name, it's Barack Hussein Obama Jr. What does his name matter anyway? Believe it or not, Hussein is a very common name worldwide, like Joe or Mike in the US. Basing your political beliefs on something as inconsequential as a name is just ignorant. As for his political leanings (he's not a socialist/communist, if you even knew what socialism or communism was, you would know that), its obvious by the state of our country and what we have done to the world that the current political philosophies are not working and are in fact destructive. Maybe its time to try something new.

@cogadh,
Its popular because the fastest growing religion is islam(never mentioned how it grew btw hint hint). I like and dislike Obama. 1st He doesn't seem stupid when speaking in front of world leaders, 2nd he has some good ideas like the transperendy bill, but i dont like the fact he is Pro-Choice or his opinion about stem cells. I mean hell, we already found out a way to create our own stem cells from adult DNA and its even safer and more effective. I even hear its cheaper. So why are we holding on to using abortioned babies?

Posted by Iclabgod - Saturday, March 15, 2008 10:31 AM
The guy isnt getting my vote at all. Lets say in the primary I voted for ALan KEYES who wanted to do away with the IRS.

Posted by cogadh - Saturday, March 15, 2008 2:09 PM
@codemonkeypwnz
Hussein is not an "Islamic name", but it does have Arabic origins. Arabic does not equal Islam. In fact, there really is no such thing as an Islamic name (before anybody brings up the name Mohammad, the Islamic prophet was named that before the religion even existed). As for your feelings on his political views, I can respect that even if I don't necessarily agree with it. However, your points on stem cells are woefully inaccurate. Yes, scientists have figured out how to make pseudo stem cells from adult cells, and it does appear to be very promising as a solution, but the process is decades away from being usable. As for the use of aborted fetuses, that has never been the case. Scientists wish to use stem cells from unused frozen embryos in fertility clinics that are going to be thrown away anyway.

Do people really still believe that internet myth about Obama being Muslim? Wow, that's sad. What a bunch of gullible saps. Do they also believe that guy who has millions of dollars locked up in some Nigerian bank?

Posted by dougdangger - Sunday, March 16, 2008 12:11 AM
Osama worships a Black Hitler from his home church. He had all of his kids baptized by an openly Jew-hating, anti-White, anti-American hate monger.

Osama is very close to this man.

Supposing McCain worshiped a White supremacist and had his kids baptized by the same racist anti-Black hate monger... you wouldn't be concerned?

Racism goes both ways sister. Newsflash... Blacks are also capable of hate.

Posted by LoCuSt - Sunday, March 16, 2008 12:23 AM
black man who will go to comic con before a woman who hates video games before a fossil who thinks he runs the "straight talk express".

Posted by codeazrael - Sunday, March 16, 2008 4:05 AM
Oh yeah, codeazrael has been awaken from his slumber by alot of ignorant racist dummies......time to let em know. First to the dummies that call Obama a terrorist because of his name........well, your southern style stupidity speaks volumes of itself. Next, people seem to want to talk about experience when "experience" is what has allowed lobbyist to corrupt politicians with "experience dealing with them. In the Iraq war alone, we always hear about the number of US soldiers killed, but do you know that just about or even over ONE MILLION CIVILIANS in Iraq have been killed because of this war? Oh, that's right, we don't care about them........even though this war is supposed to be for them. Now, they can't even walk out their front door...but Bush is spreading democracy. He's the terrorist, the worst kind, the kind that will have you fitted with a chip soon.......dummies!

@cogadh,

Scientist were pushing on using abotioned fetuses for a while, i didn't hear anything about using embryos. Thanks for the information, so now the only question remains. Why aren't we funding this faster?(lol)

Posted by Metonic4289 - Sunday, March 16, 2008 12:11 PM
...sganubis... you got hsi name wrong... names don't matter any way, only difference is some sound more american than others..

cogadh - He is leaning towards socialism, like much of the far left. That is after all what being "left" is. as for stemcells.. stemcells from dead babies are still decades away from being useful. also stem cells found in fat, were said to be more promising than dead babies, and yes im ok with them using embryos being tossed, but they had pushed for dead babies. as for obama being a muslim. The guy came out of no where, and the only thing we know is his father was a muslim, apparently he may have been a former muslim, and his wife hates black peopel and america and his preacher hates white people jews and america. I dont see a problem with him being a muslim, i see a problem with the fact he's hiding his past.

codeazreal - your comments are ignorant.

Posted by Schizorogue - Sunday, March 16, 2008 5:40 PM
@codeazreal

Your statement of "southern stupidity" is very ignorant and way off the mark. Do you not realize that Obamma is winning the south? I am one of the many people from the south that is proud to say that I will and have voted for an african-american man with a name that comes straight from the middle east. The south is not out of touch with the rest of the world as you seem to think.

This is comic con, i don't wanna see any political crap when I'm there. Let us enjoy ourselves. All presidential candidates show their true colors once they are president..If he's not there to enjoy the Comic con then i care less to see him there.

Obama sucks !!!!!! I think the only thing he wants to change is his wifes panties

Posted by sirebral - Wednesday, March 19, 2008 9:38 AM
You would think comic fans would rather meet a real life crusty fighter pilot war hero than a slick platitude-spewing lawyer.

My 2 cents.

No count of Iraq war casualties has anywhere near 1 million. The most accurate counts are between 80k and 150k in studies done by the IBC (a peace group)
http://www.iraqbodycount.org /

and the WHO
http://www.sciencedaily.com/ releases/2008/01/080113083338. htm

As for who killed all these Iraqis. Most of them died after being attacked by Islamic fundamentalist terrorists or Baathist insurgents. Not at the hands of Coalition forces.

But if you want to base your emotional screeds on bad data, be my guest. It just makes you look ignorant.

cogadh said:
"Clinton has only been a national politician 1 year longer than Obama"

Wrong, 4 years. He was a state senator until 2005. Hillary began serving in 2001.

and

"McCain has been a politician for so long that he is an integral part of everything that is wrong with American politics."

Actually, McCain has fought against lobbyists (McCain-Feingold) and more recently against earmarks. His bill was defeated and Obama and Hillary, voted with him on this, but Clinton got 342 million and Obama 98 million in earmarks. Who is more a "part of the problem"

Here is an article from 2001:

http://www.time.com/time/mag azine/article/0,9171,999648,00 .html

and here is current data:

http://www.taxpayer.net/budg et/fy08earmarks/fy08databasema in.html

Only 6 members of congress received no earmarks. McCain, 3 other Republicans and 2 Democrats (Feingold was one of them).

Once again, ignorance is the basis for a feeling-based comment.
